First time ever! Second week at #1

So why does he even have a vote? If he’s just going to mimic a computer? Even KenPom himself will acknowledge that teams deserve to be ranked higher or lower compared to his rankings
I engaged him on Twitter a few weeks ago because Tennessee was rated more favorably in the ranking systems than Michigan, but he still had Michigan ranked two or three spots ahead of Tennessee. His response was that he "trusts some of them more than others based on experience," meaning he was giving more weight to the few projections that had Michigan ahead of Tennessee.

So he defaults to the predictive rankings explanation whenever he's asked, but if someone uses those systems to point out that his rankings don't make complete sense according to the standards he's set, he'll go the "it's my opinion bro" route.

It's a little annoying, but I guess he's entitled to his own preferences.

I tweeted the guy who voted us 5th (no one else voted us lower than third. Here's his response:

I try to vote "best" not "most deserving," while knowing reasonable people can disagree on what should be done here. UT's not loved as much by predictive rankings, which look at every possession and not just W/L results. 6 KenPom, 6 Torvik, 5 Sagarin, 5 BPI, 6 Team Rankings.
i don't have an issue with that. we all know the reality is the rankings right now don't mean a ton, and as his response bears out, i don't think anyone, even those that would just absolutely disagree that we're #1, would tell you we're not one of the top 4 or 5 teams in the country.

and i'm sure that's what will more than likely play out as we get in to the back half of the conf schedule...business is about to pick up scheduule wise.

so, for now, i say "we're #1!" and mean it, and will enjoy it.

everything will work itself out in the end. i think we wind up a top 4 or 5 program by season's end, and at worst a 2 seed in the tourney. and hopefully an SEC regular season and/or tourney title in our pocket on the way.

I am proud for the team. One question about that elbowing foul called on Admiral. Did his arm even move in that guys direction when he flopped back like he had just been shot? Maybe it's just me, but I would love to see an obvious flop rule that warrants immediate no questions asked ejections. Bout the stupidest play I have seen in sports
It was a complete flop........there might have been some ever so slight contact but it was really caused by the defender. Compare that with the shot that Lamonte Turner took earlier in the 2nd half down in front of UC's (meant to say WVU) bench area. That was a real shot to the face. Turner stood his ground and did not fall to the floor. He was literally moved back by the shot. But he took the shot and played on like a boxer taking a straight to the jaw.

I did like Admiral's response when Coach Barnes basically told him to just play ball and move on from it. Officials are paid to call the game by the rules in-place but I did find it interesting how many times the UC ball handlers would take their hand a clearly push the UT players in the chest to move them back so that they could move forward with the ball. If UT does that at Carolina it will get called pretty much every time. These were fairly aggressive pushes that allowed the player to gain an unfair advantage which is the basis for most foul calls in the book.

It makes sense. We were playing much better ball a few weeks ago. UF, Bama, and Vandy were all 1 possession games with < a minute to go. We let Vandy back in a game we were dominating early. We stopped playing defense against Arkansas. 3 or 4 teams have had a player have a career high scoring game against us which shows we can’t adjust our defense to shut down a hot player mid game. WV came into our house and held us to 5 points for over 8 minutes. We have won at least 3 games due to other teams missing a lot of free throws.

There are cracks but the good news is we are still winning and we have time to fix them. When it gets to tournament time the teams that pull the huge upsets are normally really good at shooting threes and free throws. That is bad for us.

UC? You mean West Virginia?

Oh man you don’t know what you’ve been missing!

Apparently so. I really enjoy March Madness. I might have to expand my regular season viewing to the Vols. what little I was able (willing) to catch this past week looked like a good show.

Well this is the first time we've ever been ranked #1 for consecutive weeks, right? Not bad!

Interesting that Michigan State didn't move down in the AP poll after their loss yesterday. I guess voters didn't feel like other teams were worthy of jumping ahead of them.
Kentucky probably should have.

You're absolutely right. I replayed it on my DVR and there was space between his elbow and the other guy's face and he also "mistimed" his flop. He didn't fall backwards immediately
Was at the game. Looked like space between his elbow and the player and the other guy fell back when Admiral's elbow came back forward. Also, his head didn't jerk or show any signs of being struck- he just fell back. IMHO- nearly impossible to perfectly time a flop- the other player has to react to your movement and we can't react that fast.

He swung his elbows but from the replay in slow motion didn't touch the guy from the angle I saw. Must have been the wind....

Ha. The only time the wind ever knocked anybody back like that, somebody farted in their general direction. Stupid refs need to nail these damn drama queens for that.

Yeah the last replay they showed on live TV was obvious on all counts. Somebody needs to call that guy, show him the replay, and say, "This ain't soccer."

I know officals reviewed video, I never thought Schofield touched the player. He fell like he was shot , if Schofield had hit him with elbow that man would not have
gotten up to play and he'd be bleeding badly face area. But we got SEC OFFICALS they always get call right. GO VOLS!!!!!!!!

Not being an avid basketball fan at all outside of March Madness, I actually caught some of the Vandy and WV games. Very impressive.

As to the Vandy game, I am glad enough of the guys decided not to lose to a team with a guy named Shittu.

That is why video doesn't need to be reviewed courtside. You need a video replay official who is in a room that doesn't have the crowd pressure pushing his pulse rate up. I'm not jumping the refs on making the call, From the angle each one had at the moment, it was reasonable UNTIL you start checking the replay. Then, it's just BS.

Anytime ESPN talks college basketball it starts with Duke and Zion. Even when we win and they lose, it'll be more about why they lost than why we won. It's just the same with football and Alabama.

Didn’t know where to post this.... sorry

Sometime after the Vandy game, a gif was posted where a kid with a grant Williams head (laughing) knocks the books out of the hands of a kid with a vandy star on his head. Then another group runs by saying “nerds!”.... it’s funnier than my poor description. Anyway, I was trying to find it to show my boys, 13 and 15, because I knew they would get a kick out of it. Tried searching, but came up empty. Anyone remember seeing this? Appreciate your help 👍
