No, really, I thought "man, that name will market well." Second thought was "hope he can coach and isn't just riding Brian Kelly's coattails."

Really didn't know who he was so I googled him. I have to say after I seen some of his footage I was very excited because i really love intencity and he is/was a wildman! I just thought, we hadn't seen that kind of intencity out of a HC in a long time and I had a feeling he would be able to light some fires under some hindends!!!
GO VOLS!!!! VFL!!!!

Didn't know much about him. Googled CBJ and felt a bit better after I read up on him. Decided I really liked him after the first press conference

When we were discussing him my mind kept going to the Cincy game. They went for it on 4th down twice. At halftime he was asked about it and he told them if he got in another 4th and short he would go for it again with conviction. I liked the hire then and like it even better now.

When you heard Butch Jones was hired as Head Coach at University of Tennessee, what was your FIRST reaction?

I was so mad I threw away all my hats, shirts, everything with Tennessee Vols on them. This was coming on the heels of thinking maybe Gruden would come and then to get hit with Butch Jones it was more than I could stand. About 2 weeks later I bought all new hats, etc and could not be any happier with how this has all worked out. You just never know!!

I always want to believe that Tennessee hire's the right coaches but I have to admit there was not a good recent record at the time Butch was hired other than Serano and that was Joan Cronan's hire. Nevertheless, on Butch Jones, I was one of those wait and see guys. When I heard it was Butch Jones and not Charlie Strong, I checked to see how Cincy fared against Louisville and saw Butch did quite well. As Hart was introducing him, I heard Hart say they met and talked all night and Butch had a well-thought out plan. I was hoping that was true that they really did "talk all night" and that Butch really did have a plan.

So in the presser when Butch started to speak, I liked his enthusiasm and his sincerety and wanted to believe. I loved his answer to the expected question about being Hart's fourth choice - he wasn't even his wife's first choice. He talked about building a "program" and it was a "process", all now well known Butchisms. I went from a little disconsolate to hopeful because I knew it would take some time and he was saying the right things. By NSD 2013, I was buoyed with getting Dobbs and North at the last minute. Butch was already working on 2014 (or recruits for Team 118 as we would learn to call it). I thought he did a very good job holding together the 2013 class and adding the guys that he did. First impression was positive and hopeful. And, after 27 months, my positive impression and hope continues to build.

Knew he had followed Kelly at CMU and Cincinnati and had coached Kelly's talant well enuff. Wondered if he could build one of his own.You just pray that the guy can keep up this level of enthusiasm and intensity over a long period of time.

Lost to Dooley?

Yep I said the same thing. We hired a guy that got curb stomped by DD with a 5-7 team. Hart must know what he is doing.

Tennesseeduke

Now I'm saying we may have the best coach in the country. The next few years will tell.

I guess I was like most folks , I knew who he was but that was it. Sometimes people, places, and circumstances are just the right fit. I think that's the case here.

Since I can't pick two choices in the voting part I will say my reaction was , WTF....... Who is Butch Jones??! I was hoping for a big name that would instantly unite the fan base. With that being said , he has exceeded my expectations and has done a great job so far! When we beat Fla and Bama , I will be totally 98 ' again and thinking National championship or bust!!

Ha, this is what I thought, no joke, "Probably pretty good coach, but will never be able to recruit against SEC coaches!" Boy, was I wrong!

He surprised everybody with that facet of his coaching...I thought he would eventually form relationships and gain steam, but this level is more than we could have even hoped for in a Gruden fantasy.

I knew UT was hurting for money, roster was nothing to speak of and no top named coached wanted to come here.

I figured buTch was the best we could get at the time and he would get 3 to 4 years to either prove himself or he'd be gone.

I knew that part of bringing in AD Hart was to try to build up our cash and that maybe after buTch got some better talent we would be able to get a bigger named coach to come in and finish the rebuilding job.

I think buTch is proving that big named coaches aren't always the only answers to serious rebuilding projects.

If he can keep our best recruiting coaches and keep top 5 classes coming in then I now believe the sky is the limit for our footVol program.

I wasn't overjoyed at the time but I'm sure happy now.

I will admit, I wasn't too thrilled with the hire either. But I wouldn't trade him for any other coach. He has done an excellent job at recruiting and a pretty good job at coaching. I am glad I was wrong and will gladly eat my crow.

Was kind of indifferent. Thought he did well at his previous stops but had no clue he could recruit to this level. Was hoping he was the guy to bring stability.

While I knew who and where he was and had even watched them play on TV, I googled him to get a better feel. Wait and see was prolly the best "reaction". Later as I became more familiar with CBJ, I became cautiously optimistic. It was difficult because of the whole Gruden thing...
