I always want to believe that Tennessee hire's the right coaches but I have to admit there was not a good recent record at the time Butch was hired other than Serano and that was Joan Cronan's hire. Nevertheless, on Butch Jones, I was one of those wait and see guys. When I heard it was Butch Jones and not Charlie Strong, I checked to see how Cincy fared against Louisville and saw Butch did quite well. As Hart was introducing him, I heard Hart say they met and talked all night and Butch had a well-thought out plan. I was hoping that was true that they really did "talk all night" and that Butch really did have a plan.
So in the presser when Butch started to speak, I liked his enthusiasm and his sincerety and wanted to believe. I loved his answer to the expected question about being Hart's fourth choice - he wasn't even his wife's first choice. He talked about building a "program" and it was a "process", all now well known Butchisms. I went from a little disconsolate to hopeful because I knew it would take some time and he was saying the right things. By NSD 2013, I was buoyed with getting Dobbs and North at the last minute. Butch was already working on 2014 (or recruits for Team 118 as we would learn to call it). I thought he did a very good job holding together the 2013 class and adding the guys that he did. First impression was positive and hopeful. And, after 27 months, my positive impression and hope continues to build.
