For all intents and purposes, the LSU tilt is the first tournament game of the season. A loss tonight would really make an NCAA bid a tough proposition. The same can be said of this entire homestand.

Of the remaining games how many do we need to win? I have heard some say 4, others 5? But yeah, LSU is on the ropes, we need this one tonight!

Def. need this one....this situation is why I took the vandy and OSU losses so bad.

Not trying to stir things up by any means....but did you honestly expect us to win in Columbus....

As for Vandy, that is a completely different story...that game killed me, even though they have beaten some good teams, that is a game where we missed an opportunity....

I expected us to play well, and by the end of the game, I expected us to win. To lose by just a couple really hurt, especially since we got robbed at the end of a chance to tie/win.

Agreed.

That was one of those game I expected us to lose but then when we did have a chance, you are right, that sometimes hurts more than a solid beating...

We need to win tonight's game just like we need to win every game on the schedule. To call this one an elimination game is a bit of a stretch.

It isn't a stretch in the sense that if we don't win tonight we will severly reduce our chances of going to the tourney.

You want to get to 20 wins. If you do that in the regular season, it means you need to win five of the remaining regular season games and that puts you at 8-8 in the conference. I really do think that gets you in without much trouble.

If you get to 19 wins, it means you are 7-9 in the conference and 19-12 overall. I think that puts you at some risk of being at the mercy of what happens in other conferences and to other teams and you don't want to do that. If, howeve,r that is what transpires, then you can probably lock up a bid with a win at the SEC tournament.

If you only win 3 of the next 8, then you are at 18-13 and 6-10 in the conference and then you really need to get some help (or at least not get torpedoed by a bunch of upsets in the mid-major tournament finals). That willk make for a very uncomfortable weekend, especially with the likes of LSU and perhaps Auburn or Alabama with their backs against the wall in terms of the SEC tournament.

Tennessee needs 5 of the remaining 8. There is no way the selection committee can justify putting a team with a losing record in a league as mediocre as the SEC is this year in the field.

Hit free throws, and keep the foot on the gas at the 10:00 mark in the second half, and task one of the February plan will be completed.

I sure hope the fans are ready to raise some roof...

Hat, Pearl seems pretty sure the league can get seven in this year. That would be a record for the SEC, I think. You seem less than enthused about the SEC's worthiness. Do more than six go to the show???

I disagree, I think 8-8 gets us in for sure but I think we still get in at 7-9. I hope I am right because I think 8-8 is going to be a struggle.

 yep. these three games are extremely important. agree 100%

Given how the game played out, we had a chance to win it and didn't........regardless of expectation before hand, you can look back at that game now as one that got away.

i tend to agree. the only way we get in past that is if we win a couple of games or more in the SEC tourney.

I dont think this is a do or die game, but it is very important. LSU is struggling right now which helps but were not exactly burning it up either. If we can just contain Davis I think we have a shot. I say we only have to win four more to get in assuming we win at least one in the tourney.

This is an important game from a confidence standpoint. This is the time in the season that the team should begin to show some maturity. Without it we will have a one weekend trip to the dance, if we make it at all.

I think we can contain Davis by double and triple-teaming down low, since LSU has demonstrated they do not have much, if any, of an outside game.

I also think Pearl and his staff have a hell of a scout ready, if for no reason other than:

1.) Brady is a jerk
2.) Brady is a big fat jerk
3.) Brady, rather undeservingly in my opinion, got SEC COY instead of Bruce.

If I were Bruce, I would want to make this a statement game and try and blowout LSU.

I hope that fan support remains strong, despite the recent losses. I'd be there otherwise, but John Mayer has pulled me to the Coliseum.

ESPN has UT projected in as a 11 seed on the bubble. Alabama a bubble team but out. Georgia in as a 8 seed and LSU out.

I'll be shocked if there are 7 SEC teams with NCAA worthy resumes at the end of the year.
