Fire Dooley (merged)

With 4 players on D that are sophomore or younger and 7 on O Ohio State is younger than us, and they are finding a way to win. It's because they have better coaching Dooley was a stretch as a hire in the SEC. We will never be competitive in the SEC under Dooley.

I'm pretty sure we have more than 4.

I cannot believe what I read on this forum. What coach do you expect to get? During the search after Kiffin left us high and dry, there weren't many takers -- there weren't many takers when we let Phil go. The jury is still out on Dooley, but we have to give him a chance.

This is a very young team and anyone with any sense had to see we weren't going to win a lot of games. Especially after Bray and Hunter went down. Before the season started, all the 'experts' were saying how little talent TN had. After the first couple of games people talked about how dangerous we were with Bray, Hunter and Rogers. After we lost Bray and Hunter, we became the team with no talent.

I would like the scores to be a little closer, but I expected our record to be exactly where it is. I thought if the ball bounced the right way, we could beat SC or GA, but expected to lose. I expected to lose badly to LSU, Bama and Arkansas. The only place my expectations have changed between now and the beginning of the season, is I expected to beat Vandy and KY. Vandy is playing very well and now i expect to lose this one as well. I still feel we should beat KY, but won't be surprised either way.

We lack talent on both sides of the field. We might as well have been on probation with where the previous two coaches left us as far as talent and we are working through it. We need to give Dooley 2 more years to see if he is the guy. Replacing him now would be stupid and would set us back even further. At worst its like Shula at Bama who couldn't win, but put the program back to a firmer foundation. We need a foundation to build on. Hopefully, Dooley is the man who will straighten this mess out. If not, you give him enough time to setup the next coach with some decent horses to move this program forward.

And I'm pretty sure OSU had an offseason that had just maybe a little more turmoil than ours had just saying.

1. The running game has gotten worst.
2.the secondary is out of control.
3.he makes the dumbest playcalls.
4.he refuses to kick field goals
5.the team has regressed since he was hired.
6.the players don't even like him.
7.his english is terrible and makes tennessee look retarded in every interview.

Jesus please shut this MF'r up, amen.

Thank you, Volger.

So you admit you were wrong, right? And OSU has lost 4 games, almost lost to Toledo, and hasn't play 4 top 10 teams in a 5 week stretch. But nice try.

It's funny to read all this whining as if we had the talent to win the SEC. Who in their right mind believed that UT would win more than 7 or 8 games at best. This was before Jackson was kicked off the team and the thought was that Lathers would only miss a game or two? Be truthful.

UT has only 17 Juniors or Seniors in the 2 deep and most are 2nd teamers. Alabama has all Seniors and Juniors in their 2 deep. That makes a difference. Especially if they have an injury. They have players who can step in without missing a beat. We DO NOT have that luxury. It will be at least 2 years before we will be able to come close to anything like it and still won't be there all the way.

Remember, we basically lost 3 straight recruiting classes. Get a clue. If you don't think Dooley is moving us in the right direction, you need to go find another team to root for. I realize we live in the I want it now generation but it doesn't work that way. You actually have to work at it and work at it and continue to work at it and grow up.

Now if you want to move to the Big East or something like that, yeah UT would be in the thick of winning that weak league and getting a BCS invite only to be exposed once again as the weak conference it is. Why do you think Pitt and Syracuse are bolting? BUT WE PLAY IN THE BEST CONFERENCE IN THE NATION. WE HAVE THE TOUGHEST SCHEDULE IN THE NATION. Yes, we have struggled and injuries have only made it worse. Get over it. This team will get better. But, some of our fan base bailing on the team is unacceptable. Realize that this team is rebuilding and bringing in better talent that will have a positive impact. It will not happen overnight.

Do I like losing, absolutely not. Do you think our players like losing, absolutely not. They will go out there and give their all for UT. As fans, we need to support that and our staff as they rebuilt. Understand that it is awfully hard to replace 3 recruiting classes in 1 year. It is hard to replace 3 recruiting classes in 2 years. We have to go through a whole new 4 year cycle before we will be where we need to be. With Dooley's staff's recruiting, we are getting there but talent wise and experience wise, I can't think of any other college that has had to go through something like we have. Closing thing I can think of is when SMU came out of their death penalty. We weren't hit that hard but the reality is that we were not far off.

A puppy still pisses and craps the house for a while, even with an owner that knows how to train.

I'm not at all sold on this staff, but we really have no choice but to stick it out, at least another year, and look for marked improvement in 2012.

I agree. Look at the talent that came in this last class. Look at what's coming in this years class. 2013 is going to to better than 2011 & 2012. He didn't have lots of tallent to start with but he is bringing in talent very good talent. Now give him a chance to coach them. There not gonna always be superbowl mvps as fresh like some of you are expecting

there is no way anyone with a brain half the size of a tics brain can say we were a well coached team last night.

And for those finding solice in the fact petrino was 5-7 in his 1st year with the hogs, you need to remember this is not our coaches 1st year with the vols. Ark has gotten better each year. That's called progress.

top reasons why we should kick your ass
-your not a supporter
-your a tool
-your vol fan credibility is questionable
-you do not understand the time it takes to mold a young team
-you will look like an idiot next year when we are a force

Fellow Vol fans i think its kind of like this....Dooley will be here one more year regardless if they lose to Vanderbuilt and/or Kentucky. His seat will get really hot if he loses both those games, but he will still get the 2012 year. However,if we are not competitive with our SEC brethen and show some darn improvement i think Hart will have no choice but to cut our losses and find a proven head head, with a winning record.I love the Vols and bleed orange, but if Dooleys Vols can't perform at an above mediocre form next year against our main rivals,Dooley will be on the short bus out of here.

It does not "all come down to coaching". That's ignorant. Go tell Jack Lyngel of Marshall that his first year (of only winning 2 games) was all about his coaching.

In the SEC the players you have on the field HAVE to be superior in talent than your average CFB player. We don't have that luxury TBH

Its getting extremely annoying when people on this board continue to compare and relate coaches first season struggles (Petrino, Lyngel) with this years struggles. This is CDD second year with Tennessee. We all understand the lack of depth, injuries, youth, etc. But most of the problems this season are the lack of fundamentals---THATS COACHING!

Also Dooley has had two recruiting classes and with the majority of two classes seeing playing time, we still have no speed. I also think R. Neal should have stayed at RB and Zack Rogers should be benched.

Does a tic have a brain?

Are the homers still going to be slurping Fooley and making withdrawls from the excuse bank when we go 4-8, and 0-8 in the conference?

I support Dooley and we have to give him another year just for the sake of stability. I was one of the big Dooley supporters. I still really like the guy. However, my hopes for this coaching staff are starting to dwindle. With Bray and Hunter out and the fact we don't have a rb that is really any good, I give the offense a bit of a pass. But our blocking has to improve and it hasn't. I do not think that is youth and talent, I think that is coaching. There is something terribly wrong with our schemes. We blocked a little better last night at the beginning of the game but then it went downhill. Defensively, if I watch another player streak down the middle of the field with no one covering him as he catches a 30 yard pass or another person catch a pass in the completely wide open flats I am going to freak out. This Wilcox defense is the only defense I can recall ever watching where the middle of the field and the flats are both wide open on almost every play. What part of the field are our players covering? The sad part about the middle being open all the time is we don't even blitz that much. I understand kids are young and they blow coverages and get out of position. But my gosh Wilcox could have ran 5 defensive plays all night long and as long as they were executed halfway decently they wouldn't have put 49 on us. Some days he looks like he has it together with his play calling and other days he looks like he is just throwing darts at a board and calling whatever play it lands on.

Look UT is starting 16 true freshmen and all the injuries I don't care who the coach is even General Neyland Would have trouble winning with this team the sophomores have one year of strength and conditioning freshmen are just out of high school and every one expects them not to get down on them self's and beat teams that are twice as deep and three years older than them remember what it was like at 18 and 19 the coaches can say what ever they want to the players coach them up all they can at that age under this kind of pressure that they have never had in their life and all every one says is this team sucks and the coaches should be fired I think if you fell that way about this team while they are trying to rebuild after the last four years then go be a fan of some other team and get off this team and the coaches backs and every one else be patient GO VOLS PS Ihave been a fan since the late 70's and always will be I was born in 73

I'm going to be a vol fan no matter what. If we lose to vandy and kentucky this year I will still wear my Vol apparel with pride and yell Go big orange. I agree with you that some people take it over the top on here. But questioning this coaching staff doesn't make you a negavol. I want this staff to succeed. I hope they succeed. I did not expect wins this year. I certainly didn't expect them after Hunter went down and I basically kissed them good bye when Bray went down. I am not upset about the losses. I am upset about our team not improving. Does the run blocking look better to you? Does our defense look like they are starting to understand the coverages? No and No. Chaney's play calling is not bad at all but the team can't execute even on simple plays. Wilcox on the other hand looks like he is completely outclassed sometimes. Some days he looks like he has a clue and other days he looks like a high school d.c. trying to stop the patriots. I want our players to at least have an understanding of the fundamentals and most of them look lost out there.

Tennessee does not start 16 true freshman! I think your confused with the number of true freshman who have played.

Dooley deserves 3 years as a coach to show what improvement he can make.
I'm disappointed so far, but he has recruited pretty well so lets see what happens next year.
