Fire Dooley (merged)

There is no way anyone with a brain half the size of a tics brain can say we were a well coached team last night.

And for those finding solice in the fact Petrino was 5-7 in his 1st year with the Hogs, you need to remember this is not our coaches 1st year with the Vols. Ark has gotten better each year. That's called progress.

im not sure any coach would do much better with what product he has to work with. we lose janzen who is a sure fire first rounder, and jackson made brewer what he was last year. then lose hunter and bray. this team had to keep everyone healthy to be competitive. worley will be a fine qb in time, but hes nowhere near tyler as far as talent goes. this team is simply to young to absorb those kinds of losses. someone name me 1 team that starts as many fros/sophs that are having much better results, not to mention one of the toughest schedules in the country. playing uf, bama, uga, usc and arky in a 7 week span would be very trying for any veteran team in the country, much less a team full of fr/soph all over the place.

We didn't have to beat them. Teaching this team to be solid at the fundamentals would be a start.

Having coached baseball at the high school and college level for about 15 years, I can tell you that larger amounts of time are spent teaching fundamentals at the HS level, hitting ..fielding techniques,as compared to college..I was on the D2 level in college and we had NO time to teach a grown man how to hit a baseball, when that was what we assumed he could do when he got there...Same for football..you have to doe the bare minimum on fundamentals, rehearse for 20 hours, then go out and see what happens..

There IS a 20 hour contact max...cant waste it reinventing a wheel..

P.S.

And if I see one more "halftime adjustment" comment Im going to throw up.

It's series to series...just like Baseball...Yeah, I always waited to pull a pitcher at the END of the inning..classic Mid inning adjustment..

I'm starting to think we have some coaching issues. I've been a Dooley supporter and still like they guy but we seem to have made little to zero improvements at most positions, game planning and adjusting at half time.

O line had at least two drive killing 3rd down penalties last night. Thomas is a two year starter and James is a two year starter. Is it fair to call a two year starter inexperienced? This is we will all differ. Do you put costly penalties on the 2 year starters or the coaching? I think it's the coaching because we have these same freakin false starts and holds every week on third down.

2nd and goal on the 5 before the half and you try and have Worley throw across middle instead of calling running or screens? I like our chances much better trying to run it in or a pass in the flats than having a young inexperienced qb make a play in the middle.

If we had pounded it in and kicked the fg earlier instead of the fake call (maybe it was too windy not sure), it's 21-17 at half time and you have a ball game. I put those 10 pts squarely on the coaches along with momentum shift.

With all that being said, we can't get rid of Dooley yet. We've gotta keep him around at least one more year to build stabilty, especially since he can recruit fairly well. I hope he is able to learn from his and his staff's mistakes just as they ask the players to learn from mistakes.

I hope some changes are considered with the staff though, particularly with CJC. The Sprint Draw Scheme he and Dooley have tried to implement is horrible and not gonna fly in this conference.

You think Chaney call "across the middle late" as a play?..That interception was an ad lib...Seriously?

You sound misinformed.

Theres not one, but some dont want to accept the truth. Its too hard to swallow

Team is repeating mistakes...not looking fundamentally sound...should execute better....it looks like Dooley has lost this bunch. Do we beat the dead horse just to stir the pot? Dooley won't be around after next year if they don't win 8. Nothing else to say about it.

Additionally, there is no correlation between brain size and intelligence. If so, Andre the Giant should have been a quantum physicist.

Furthermore, a tic is not a tick. I see what you mean, but its obvious from your writing that you are not a stickler for details. That's probably hindering your capacity for rational analysis.

Just sayin'.

head size and IQ may be related actually:

Something tells me its pretty hard to win the SEC with:
1 junior, 3 sophomores, and a freshman on the oline
A freshman QB who was originally the 3rd string
No running backs coach
Our best receiver out since the Florida game
We now only have what 2 starters on our D that started last year?
With that being said our all sec safety was kicked off the team a week before the season started
Our other safety is out for the rest of the year
Our only returning linebacker broke his ankle and will miss the whole season
We played Arkansas, bama, lsu, south carolina, georgia, and florida with the youngest team in American that is 70 PER CENT FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES

Yeah they may seem poorly coached but hell with the said reasons what do you expect? Some people refuse to get it. I'm probably one of the few who will still support this team if they lose to Vandy and Kentucky. I fully believe next year is different.

I agree completely with what you have said , but there is as much if not more on the coaching staff :
1 ) stop with the spring - draw running scheme . Every team in the SEC uses a power running game..except Coach Sprint Draw. It didnt work before Bray and Hunter went down , wont work now , wont work later. It developes too slow , blocks have to be held way to long
2 ) The DBS , while young , are uncoached. They have bad keys or no keys at all . They are schemed bad in the 2nd half...thats why everybody torches us with the long ball in the 2nd . I think Terry Fair , Eric Ainge and numerous other football minds have noted this. Bad technique to boot.
3) Hide your blitzes and coverages. Everything is obvious to the viewer ..you know SEC QBS and OCs know it
4 ) take the 3 points and stop with the cute fakes
5) on 4th and 1 ..ask Worley to throw a short slant ? One of the hardest passes to complete because it is a timeing pass and because there is no seperation . Really?
This is not the first 4th down snaffu
6) whats with the H backs and wing T type distractions ? These distractions are not going to get SEC LBs enough out of position to matter . We are not a west coast team ..why the H backs?
7 ) They lost their best receiver ..yet they have another receiver and TE that any team in the country would die for
***
so while there is youth and depth ...there is alot of coaching "anti-awesome' going on . The coaches should be putting these kids in a position to compete , not widening the gap.

I disagree with #7, even though I despise Doolittle. I have a masters in English. He is far better spoken than any coach I can remember on the hill. It's true he has a southern accent, but his application of English grammar is refreshing. Yours on the other hand I find to be lacking. You did not capitalize the word English, even though it is a proper noun. Also, you were comparing two years, last year and this year. The correct term would be he has gotten "worse" not "worst". You should have used a comparative modifier, not a superlative one. Dooley would not have made the same mistakes.

I also disagree with #4. Michael Palardy is a bust and he's hurt. We don't have a kicker, so why should we attempt field goals we can't make?

I do agree with your other points, especially #6 and #3. The fact that the players do not like Doolander is a huge part of our second half ineptitude. They feel like he doesn't give them a chance to win with his play calling, so they stop giving their all for Tennessee IMO.
