Finebaum: The Vols' "program is knocking on the door of greatness."

PF is just jumping on the writer bandwagon. Say something open-ended about UT's potential. If you're right, you look good. If you're wrong, everyone forgets about it.

That goes for every single writer, show host, etc. No remembers what they say...or cares.

Every team, at this moment, has the potential to go 12-0.

KB, I'm so proud of you. This is a major breakthrough.

On the other hand, your mental health is going to be totally wrecked if we don't win that game.

Hehe, poor fellow. But...we won't lose. Go Vols!

Thanks JP. "My name is KBVol, and I'm a NegaVol when it comes to the Florida game."

Greatness???

This football team won SEVEN games last year.

Good grief. Haven't seen anything CLOSE to greatness yet.

Prove it, Butch and Co.

How in the F did Paul Finebaum get a TV show. He is the most uninspiring sports personality I've ever seen. The few times I have watched or listened to him, I am bored to tears....he has ZERO emotion. Also, his ears look like those fake ones you find in Halloween supply stores. I pass on Finebaum. :bad::bad:

Bullsh!te

EVH just chill man. We would have to have tons of things go our way this season and have a lot of other teams in other conferences lose to get a shot. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but the first loss of the season you will be on here calling for CBJ to be fired. Relax man. I want to win them all as well but those are rare seasons indeed. just enjoy us getting better and moving in the right direction. Roman was not built in a day and championship football teams are not built in a couple of seasons when they have to come from the depths we are having to climb out of post Doofus. GBO

I don't think so, Eddie. I don't think we get to 12-1 regular season + SEC CG in 2015, and that's about the price of admission to the playoffs.

But I do think at the top end, just about all the breaks going our way, we could get to 11-2 (10-2 regular season and a miraculous win in Atlanta), and just barely miss the playoffs.

More likely is we go 9-3 and just barely miss Atlanta, or just barely make it. That's where I think we'll most likely end up, but it's gonna be really close.

Worst case, we're 8-4 and have broken a couple of those nasty streaks.

No matter which way it goes, it's so hugely great to be back in the football season with our Vols (hey, a major pre-season poll has been published and we're less than a weak from fall camp, I'm counting us as "in the season" hehe).

Go Vols!

p.s. One gets the impression that with Finebaum, it's all about building viewership and he knows Vol Nation is a lucrative target population. I don't believe he's sincere for one minute, no matter who he's touting.
then should i feel good or bad about him picking GA to win the East??:eek:lol:

the other observations regarding the season, agree 100%.

Colorado got a fifth down to win a football game in their National Championship season.

Nebraska had 0:00 on the clock and required a horrible pass to be kicked in the endzone, somehow not fly out of bounds, find one of their receivers during one of their Natty campaigns.

Stoerner's fumble was just football. A lot weirder stuff has happened in living memory. Vols still had a lot to do after that fumble.

that is exactly the play that came to mind when i saw the "never happen again" post too. good call.

I don't mind Finebaum. Yeah, he has knocked us a lot in the past, but almost every time he was correct. He was just being realistic. I'm not saying I love PF or am a huge fan, but I definitely think he attracts more hate then he deserves. We were a pretty delusional fanbase during the Dooley years, but that is just because we are such a caring and passionate fanbase. I can't fault him for knocking us some, even if it wasn't the most respectful thing.

I legitimately think Finebaum is much like Clay Travis. They are both incredibly hard on Tennessee, but that is just because they both want to see us succeed and both want us to be an elite program. You don't think Finebaum was looking for a chance to raise some hell and brag about his alma mater on his show? He was probably a little bitter that our administration and athletic department were so atrocious for so long.

P.S.: Eddie Vol Halen, you need to simmer down a bit. You make the rest of us look crazy with your asinine thoughts that we are a legitimate playoff contender. We haven't proven anything yet. We need more than just a few breaks to go our way. Calm yourself and enjoy the season before I see you on here after a possible week 2 loss against Oklahoma calling for Butch's head.

PF doesn't give a crap about anything Tennessee as he's proven beyond any doubt over many years.

He's only trolling for more people to watch his pathetic show and trying to get better ratings.

The only reason to turn his boring show on is if you're really tired and ready to sleep.

He's a bammer at heart and I'll never turn his boring show on.

We are one TENNESSEE and moving up the rankings so we don't need that bammer lover on our Big Orange bandwagon!

Finebaum is my hero. If I could make a million dollars by getting Alabama fans to make fools of themselves and prove how backwards and ignorant they are to a national audience, by golly I'd do it tomorrow.

A supreme effort can cause the football gods to smile upon you. Billy Ratliff exploded off of the line of scrimmage and "pushed all-SEC offensive guard Brandon Burlsworth backwards into his quarterback. Burlsworth stepped on Stoerner's foot, and Stoerner reached out to brace himself--and lost the football. You know the rest" (100 Days of Vols #18 - Stumble and Fumble - Rocky Top Talk). Neyland had predicted this outcome in nonspecific terms many decades before: "Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE. If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam."

Dang Rex.. I got goosebumps all over and lost myself at the desk reliving that moment! Thanks.

actually...I haven't figured out what he gives a crap about except stirring the pot. I used to think he was a bammer, but now I'm thinking he's a "whoeverwinner" Lately he has been hammering alabama over the past couple years and it's getting all over the bama fans who call in. Kinda funny, but he does it to virtually everyone who doesn't win the big games and delusional callers with no clear point.

How about we wait to see how much this team has progressed from last year before we start talking about greatness. We haven't beaten Florida in 10 years, Alabama doesn't even consider us a rival, and I remember when a 7-6 season used to be considered a terrible year. Are we knocking on the door of greatness just because of a couple recruiting classes?

Being a long time Vol fan, it's so easy to get carried away with all the high expectations, especially after the last 7-8 years.
Truth is no one knows how team 119 will respond to adversity and the grueling pace of an SEC season.
I can see anywhere from a 5-7 to 9-3 season, depending on injuries and players being able to step up and contribute immediately.
Go Vol's
