Finebaum: The Vols' "program is knocking on the door of greatness."

I don't understand the level of hatred some of you have for PF! He is a smug A hole but he usually speaks the truth, when I have seen or heard him. I tuned in to the SEC Network yesterday and he was getting railed on by Bammer fans for saying CUM was the best coach and had the best team in the country! I kind of enjoyed how upset he had the Redneck Nationals!!

GO VOLS!!!

PF is boring and his show is too. He is accurate in what he says. Even when he "bashed" us he was right. I don't understand how soany fans can be angry when someone speaks their opinion. Even if they are a grad they are paid to give their opinion. People who hate on PF and CT only do so because they want homerism. Hate on them for their show being boring or their content sucking.

Maybe it's the things you missed? Renouncing his degree from UT? Spending several segments of a show coaxing UT fans to call in and rant, then mocking them for days for doing so? Stating that it doesn't matter where he went to school, Alabama is his true people? These are off the top of my head and I'm not even a regular viewer. There are tons of honest sports analysts that haven't given UT any breaks over the bad years, only a couple have gone so far out of their way to mock us.

I promise not to ask you why you like him but don't act surprised that many others don't.

In an interview published today in the Tennessean and online (Paul Finebaum: Vols), Paul Finebaum made the following observations concerning the current state of Tennessee football: "I buy the hype that there's great buzz and interest. Butch Jones has done a great job. I'm not one of those who thinks Tennessee is automatic to win the SEC East. I think they have a chance. I think the program is back. I think the program is knocking on the door of greatness."

Could very well be. But couldn't Nostradamus Finebaum say that about 2/3s of the teams in the SEC? He's certainly not going out on a limb here. If he's wrong, no one will remember.

So just so I understand you....you're saying that with just a couple of bounces that go our way, we are a legitimate contender for the 4 team playoff that determines national champion for 2015. Did I get that right?

Anything is possible... see Clint Stoerner fumble in the Arkansas game. It wasn't even a bounce. It was just layin' there for the taking.

Thats never happened in the history of football, and will probably never happen again. 100% guaranteed.

A supreme effort can cause the football gods to smile upon you. Billy Ratliff exploded off of the line of scrimmage and "pushed all-SEC offensive guard Brandon Burlsworth backwards into his quarterback. Burlsworth stepped on Stoerner's foot, and Stoerner reached out to brace himself--and lost the football. You know the rest" (100 Days of Vols #18 - Stumble and Fumble - Rocky Top Talk). Neyland had predicted this outcome in nonspecific terms many decades before: "Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE. If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam."

Wink, click and pointy gun finger right at ya, KBVol.

I've decided I'm not pumping the brakes until we go Thelma and Louise. We've got things to be excited about; no sense in not being excited until the wheels actually do come off.

Butch is the man.
Debord is the man.
The OLine will be serviceable.
Everything else is near Top drawer in the nation.
We get a bounce against GA and OK, we need a bounce against Bama or Auburn in Atlanta.
Everybody else will be beaten soundly by Team 119.
PLAYOFFS!!!

Colorado got a fifth down to win a football game in their National Championship season.

Nebraska had 0:00 on the clock and required a horrible pass to be kicked in the endzone, somehow not fly out of bounds, find one of their receivers during one of their Natty campaigns.

Stoerner's fumble was just football. A lot weirder stuff has happened in living memory. Vols still had a lot to do after that fumble.

I didn't read this but gave you a like. You drop so many stats and don't get the credit you deserve

Whether it reflects playing to the proverbial home crowd, as opposed to the Alabama-based contingent of his former radio audience, I was still somewhat surprised by these comments, given his history of snide remarks about our collective alma mater. With respect to his time at Tennessee, Finebaum said that "The biggest game every year was Alabama and it was fairly sad those four years to see that game. I loved my time at Tennessee. . . . Tennessee provided me with a career and I'll never forget that and I'm always appreciative of that."

Whether these remarks reflect his true opinion in his heart of hearts, we will probably never know. The views expressed by his public persona have, in the past, been so overwhelmingly negative that I have been inclined to regard him as "Benedict Finebaum."

But you're still fluffing a gator loss for us I'm sure

As you clearly know based on this post, I've gotta be about the most pessimistic Vol fan there is when it comes to Florida. But that stupid streak has gotta end sometime. Maybe this is the year....it's virtually all in our favor this year. Not quite sure what "fluffing a loss" means, but I'm thinking hell no....this is the year...Go Vols!

KB, I'm so proud of you. This is a major breakthrough.

On the other hand, your mental health is going to be totally wrecked if we don't win that game.

Hehe, poor fellow. But...we won't lose. Go Vols!
