Finebaum Talking About OC Search

I've been listing Swain this morning. He about has me sold on promoting Larry Scott. He also mentioned how big a loss it was losing Coach Elder last year and how well he worked and knew this offense. I know he is a head coach now at a smaller school but would he possibly consider coming back as the OC. He should be a "good fit" as Butch would say allowing us to keep our current assistant coach. I would assume we could pay our OC as much or more than he is making as a head coach. If it's not coach Scott or Z, could or should Elder be a legitimate candidate?

I listened to that and it infuriated me. Swain said that both could be better than Debord. How in the h*** can anybody say that about 2 guys that have little experience calling plays? CZA could barely teach a kid to catch a football before this season. Dumbest thing that I have ever heard Swain say.

Butch remarks on OC search

1) critical hire
2) has to be able to develop QBs
3) "right fit"

#Vols coach Butch Jones said it's already been a challenge returning all the text messages regarding the offensive coordinator opening.

Didn't he also say people were blowing up his phone before he hired DeBord? Maybe I'm mistaken but I thought I remembered scratching my head on why him if numerous other people were interested. Probably just more Butch coach speak.

Yes. Disappointing... Butch basically said he won't be relinquishing any of his offense. It looks like more 3 & outs and no downfield passing game.

Seriously what offense have you been watching??

I feel like simple Vol fans still have the impression of Mike Debord from the early games of last season. He has been a beast this season - particularly since the elephant left the room (Hurd).

Lets steal Lincoln Riley from OU.. that guy is big time and would do wonders in Knoxville.. He can OC for a year then replace butch the year after.. wont happen but he would be an exciting play caller

"Helfrich/Hoke"

Again I have to ask. Where is this love coming from? Both failed coaches that drove programs into the dirt.

But they were so successful at the positions that they would be taking at UT that they were promoted to HC jobs. They won't be HCs at UT, but the jobs that they've already proven their abilities at.

Seems they were riding off the success of their predecessors. When they got put to the test they fell on their face. Even Debord was a proven successful coach.

...and what the frig happened to Shoop? as far as I knew he was still our D coach and supposedly the greatest thing since sliced bread.
