That #2 ranking is misleading. We were awful in time of possession, negative plays, and number of punts.

We set school records for points. Our offense is pretty good. Also, Alabamas offense is very similar to Butchs. Oh and Dobbs was tops in the SEC in TD passed of 20+ yards and his yards per pass attempt was 8.3. Thats higher than Watson. The downfield passing was good.

The reason I hate Butch's offense is because there is very little imagination in play design. There are sooooo many things we could have done with Kanara and Malone. Another thing is that Butch doesn't attack mismatches. Malone was the kind of receiver that should've had games where he had 12 catches for 200 yards and 3 TD's. But he never got that opportunity, because Butch wouldnt target him more than 5 or 6 times a game.

Kelly isn't coming to Tennessee, but I am interested in the Helfrich/Hoke rumors

please post cliffnotes for those that can't tune in

Mike Griffith said that he was on a conference call with Jones. Jones stated that he was going to take some time to fill the position. He also stated that Jones said he is looking for someone to play his (Jones) style of offense and who is able to put a twist on it. Griffith went on to say he doesn't think Helfrich (not sure on spelling) is sitting on the sidelines thinking he going to run an offense style that isn't his. That's the jest of his comments!

Offense was inconsistent and stagnant at times this year otherwise it was great.. I mean the SCjr game was a trainwreck offensively, and they didn't bother to come back out on the field in the second half versus Vandy. There were some issues there , some to do with the QB not being very consistent passing the ball. I don't think the plays called were as big a issue as the execution was just poor a lot of times, too much. Cost us a couple games.

Don't know what to tell you. Sounds like you spend a bit too much time in the weeds with stats and other things that don't matter nearly as much as the primary objective of scoring points. I get you point but I can see what Butch tries to do with the offense and I don't have any real issues with it. He is very focused on down and distance and targeting downfield doesn't seem to be much on the radar.

Butch Jones is basically hiring for his job next season. If he botches this hire, and fails next season, it won't be good for him or for Tennessee.

Butch Jones's tenure at Tennessee will live or die based on his willingness to adapt, and learn from his failures. He must hire coaches that are strong in his areas of weakness. Ego must be put aside.

As productive as our offense was most of the year, it could have been even better. How many times was Malone targeted, on average, per game--4? Not nearly enough. He was under-utilized. Kamara was under-utilized early in the year. Byrd was under-utilized. At least we began to see that there were better options than plowing with Hurd 15 times a game. We're not going to have a guy like Dobbs at QB next year who can contribute so much with the run, so good play-calling and being creative is imperative. And let's keep this in mind: Dobbs was extremely durable. He ran the ball a lot and stayed healthy throughout.

It's what will be his undoing. The best coordinators get their playmakers the ball enough to have a impact. They didn't use guys right and i think it's a product of this system.. Too much subbing out and guys never into the flow of a game enough to have a impact. That's why i don't think a guy like Helfrich will hitch his wagon to that.

With Griffith comments if true, Butch is still going to micromanage. If that is the case, have serious doubts about him getting it done. May be true what some are saying about DeBoard leaving dur to Butch.

If this is the route Butch takes then he might as well get his resume ready because he will be fired at the end of next year. But it would not surprise me.

I hope I'm wrong, but that's just what I feel after reading and hearing what I have today.

Thank you! Everybody here just looks at our point total and just assumes that we were lights out on offense. That wasn't always the case. We had trouble scoring against App St, SC, and Ohio... We scored 3 points in the 2nd half of the Vandy game. Good defensive coaches shut our offense down with ease.

Griffith doesn't think it's Helfrich because Butch wants to keep his system

Tee Martin and Randy Sanders are possibilities

Tee Martin isn't coming here for a lot of reasons, but his system at USC (heavy pro-style) is worlds apart from Butch's.
