Only if you want to claim the 1938 and 40 "championships" which were "awarded" by the Dunkel System, whatever that is. I've said it many times before, but it never ceases to amaze me how UT fans will blast bammers for claiming 12 national championships (or whatever they are up to now), yet these same people want to claim bogus championships for UT. We have 2 legitimate national championships, 1951 and 1998.

....yo, Bro, I love ya, but there was a liitlle thing called a world war. Also, Bryant coached ALOT more games due to said war. ....and the times and $$$$ were WAY different. This will always be an argument about semantics and I will ALWAYS fall on the side of the general....right or wrong(probably wrong):salute:They are also less bias than you... Bryant has won almost twice as many games as Neyland...
....well, you can't expect us to measure up to those "high-brow" 'Bammer sites, huh. Glad you keep "slummin'" we like having you around Einstien.Just when I thought that there was no possible way for the collective I.Q. of this board to get any lower, it has now dipped somewhere between a Neanderthal and a Mongolid.
:toast: That excuses most of my posts, too. The only time I can get time to be on here is in that catagory (not comparing myself to either of these two incredible men....just relatingI'm not saying it as criticism. I think a man who serves his country in battle(Neyland) or pulls himself up out of abject poverty by sheer will and force of talent(Bryant) can drink as much as they damn well please.

I thought Jeff Sagarin's poll was relatively new. Didn't know his grandfather was polling as well.1938 NC was given by 8 different polling services.
Billingsley, Boand, Dunkel, Football Research, Houlgate, Litkenhous, Poling, Sagarin
1950 Was awarded by 5
Billingsley, DeVold, Dunkel, Football Research, National Championship Foundation
He was a drunk, but he was also the best football coach around.
Being a drunk didn't impair his ability to coach.
I'm not going to elevate him to "hero" status though.
Are you saying that a sports figure isn't a true hero? If not, who does qualify?
Just wondering, considering your posts after the UA/TN game. You said it then, too, that Bryant shouldn't be considered a "hero".
Quite frankly because I'm a UT fan and I hate the Tide. That is why I do not consider him a "hero."
There are a lot more prominent figures to be used as someone's hero in my book. But if you want to keep laying bags of potato chips and bottles of coke at the feet of Bryant's statue go right ahead.
Well, Here's to hoping that you and 'ole Jeffy are happy together. It'll be a wonderful partnership of over-rating teams like USF and UCONN and long walks on the beach discussing the data that tells all us unknowlegeable little people that Ohio State is the best team in the land.Jeff Sagarin's computer knows more about football than you ever will. And so do I.
