Yes. He started on radio. He stirred up the Bama low-lifes (guys like Harvey Updyke) when they were down, blaming Fulmer and UT (when the Vols were perennially in the top 5) for their demise, and built a large following in Alabama. Since most of the vitriol was directed at Tennessee, a lot of other SEC fans were drawn to the show. Many listened to be entertained by the angry callers who regularly spewed garbage on his call-in segment. It was one of the few college football talk shows on radio at the time, so it grew in popularity in the south. His schtick was, and probably still is, to stir the pot regardless of facts.What they need to be discussing on this show is how Finebaum can stay on the air with that face. The guy is a string bean, hair a joke, terrible dresser and hit every limb in the ugly tree. Its amazing to me how he can continue to be shown in households across the country. Does anyone know how he does it? Relatives own stock in the network or something?
