PF said the only starter that needed to lose his starting position was the HC.

I'm not sold a change is made due to the finances but I'll ask this question. IF it's inevitable (don't think it is fwiw). Is it better to do it now to get a jump on who will be available this year or wait where it doesn't hurt recruiting?

My take. Don't fire him midseason, if you believe you will move on, go ahead and do it behind the scenes, fire him right after the last game because if not, if they hire the new HC in a week, signing day is only two weeks later. The new signing day really hurts those who fire their coaches. Most kids won't sign bc they will want to know who their new coach is making them easy prey. Whereas most teams will only have 3-5 spots left as I'd imagine most schools will sign 18-20 on that first date. Probably only 10 or less will sign with schools that fire their coach meaning other schools have a Huge advantage. You don't want Bama coming after your big fish when they only have to recruit 2-3 guys and you are trying to hang on to most of your class.

Honestly, what difference does it make if he is fired now vs the end of the year? We need a leg up on the hiring process since at least 3 programs will be actively searching (Texas A&M, Missouri, Ole Miss, and maybe even LSU).

I believe he gets another year to 2018 depending on how this team finishes the season. Then again, if UT goes to Tuscaloosa and has a Vandy moment, losing 59-0 to the tide, it's a possibility Jones is canned immediately and a interim will complete the season.

Not being condescending, but seriously what makes you think he should be here for 2018 after the 5 performances we have seen on the field this year, each game being worse than the previous?

I would be working on it behind the scenes and if that hurts Butch's feelings then so be it. Fire him after he steps off the field against Vandy and announce the new coach the very next day.

What has anyone seen through 5 games (specifically the last one, at home to a team still not on Bama's level) that tells anyone Bama doesn't name the score.

One caller after the game brought up a neat idea. Take a page out of Pat Summitt's playbook, put everyone in the visiting locker room and take away all of their Tennessee stuff. They don't get it back until they earn it.

I was done after the Florida game. The man is just not a good coach. What would make anybody believe he will finish 8-4. Georgia's defence wasn't that damn dominate. There were plays to be made, points to score. I feel sorry for all who were at the game and/or had children witness our beloved vols get raped yesterday.

I received a message right after the nice dump pass, run, and then the fumble, in the third...it said GOD is not a Vol fan anymore, and how could I be so arrogant, not only to think Butch will coach another year, but to put it down in writing...

PS. I replied...MESSAGE RECEIVED...STOP...MESSAGE UNDERSTOOD...STOP...

GO VOLS!

You can do that and have it be effective if you're Pat... not Butch.

Need to move on to an interim coach immediately.
If they don’t make a change now, we will be blown out by South Carolina.

Are they going to wait until Kentucky blows us out?

The difference here is Pat is on another level than Butch. In fact Butch needs to be put in the visiting locker room. If only Pat were here to do this. I guarantee she could straighten this crap out.

Vandy will take us to the woodshed, too.

After watching them absolutely destroy Candy and Miss I wouldn't be surprised if they get 65 at a minimum. We'll be lucky to move the ball past the 50.

Five questions relevant to this discussion (and many others like it):

1) Does Finebaum [or 99% of the other talking/typing heads] have any financial investment in Tennessee's success? No

2) Does Finebaum have any professional investment in Tennessee's success? No

3) Does Finebaum have any emotional investment in Tennessee's success? No

4) Does Finebaum have all of the above invested in finding a daily audience for whatever he says or writes? Yes

5) Do physicists care what Finebaum thinks about the mass of the Higgs boson subatomic particle? No
because Finebaum isn't paid to know the truth about anything... his job and his reputation are maintained by simply stating opinions that get talked about.

Damn, if our fanbase is actually giving PF any credence, we're screwed anyway. He's going to give TN a dig every chance he gets.

I think at this point aside from bama.... Losing any other games would/should be considered a bad loss... Or at best losing more winnable games.

The way the landscape is shaping up, lsu isn't very good, Kentucky has come back down to earth, as has Vandy and usce.

Missouri is not good. And southern miss... You really can't lose that game.

The bad news, no one else is looking at us any differently either.

So get ready.

The time to fire him is now...along with all assistants

You realize we have a game in 2 weeks right? I get and support firing Butch, but if you fire everyone, who will coach the team against USCe?

Did I really just have to ask that question? smh....
