The numbers are the same in Repub controlled cities. Only a dummy would ignore plain hard facts. If police searched White and Black people at an equal rate there would be way more White people in jail than Black. Most people are in jail for drugs.White and Black people buy, sell, and posses them at the same rates but there are way more White people. Because Black people are the ones being harassed and searched they are the ones being arrested for drugs. These are proven facts that anyone who isn't ignorant knows and acknowledges.
Sure you can look at that one stat and draw a conclusion, but it is wearing blinders to other factors.
I question whether you are willing to take an honest look at the variables. My wife works for a DA office. Significantly more white arrests than blacks in our county, btw.
Due to liberal policies of the past 50 years, blacks are more likely to live in low income housing and high population concentration, where there is MORE violent crime. Those are facts you can't deny.
It is much more difficult to police rural areas. Further, how drugs are exchanged in rural areas is much more benign and less accompanied by violent activity. Not so for our urban areas. Look at the stats of who is more likely to die in a drug deal. If there are more whites than blacks and both use drugs at the same %, then please tell me why a black person is more likely to die in a drug deal?
Many people who get pulled over in urban areas are already known by the police and have had run ins with the law because they are wrapped up in a myriad of illegal activity.
Look at the antithetical way pot is perceived in the white hippy culture of the 60s (Peace, love) versus the black urban culture (the movie Friday comes to mind).
Get rid of violence and you will reduce the police presence and thus reduce the rates at which blacks encounter police. Period. What specifically are YOU doing to help with that? Personally, I've been taking my cracker ass to urban areas every week for the past 11 years to work with kids and youth to help them make decisions that will be fruitful for their lives.
You are the problem. Unfortunately there are too many who will not take ownership and simply look for reasons to blame others for their problems. Knoxville is fortunate to have a few like Darryl Arnold who are meeting these things head on, taking ownership, and working with law enforcement to foster progress and change.
