I guess a better way of describing it is that the lawyer seemed to be suggesting that he and the family agreed that, despite the video of the robbery, nothing justified him being killed. Which I agree with. But, it was quite a change in rhetoric from what we had heard earlier in the day.

Edit: The implication of course being that the family recognized that he was a dick.

Well no one would argue the theft warranted death but we still don't know the full details of the altercation.

Honestly I'm with GV on this. In this day and age, where is the video? Someone was recording.

And as I suspected (and still do) the video that's bound to be out there obviously shows this fine upstanding member of the community in a way bad light.

Which is why we haven't seen it.

wonder if the police officer had one of those camera's clipped to his shoulder, that should be compelling evidence

I don't think so. If I read it correctly, they don't even have cameras in the cars due to cost.

Still waiting on the video of the Confrontation with law enforcement. After all the kid got shot in cold blood several times in the back while holding his hands in the air and fleeing. All this in broad daylight. Surely a fine upstanding member of the community took a video of this and knew they couldn't trust the boys in blue with it and the Internet was the proper place for it. Surely.

So he was shot 8 times? I may have missed it. It seems the reports reflect that the officer was unaware at the time he had robbed a store. Guess we will have to wait and see the final results.

The other guys testimony(s) don't help their case either.

I think that's what some testimonies state but if the guy was threatening the officer, with his size (and especially of Ferguson PD are carrying 9mm instead of .45s), it's possible it took 8 bullets to neutralize the threat (and maybe all 8 didn't hit.)

I agree. I don't think all 6-10 rounds ( different reports I've seen) hit the guy.

I am curious to something though, had the young man been successful and killed the cop, would it receive this much attention?

Toungue in cheek- I know the answer.

The media are really annoying on this. CNN, Orlando Sentinel, and of course the liberal outlets are running headlines like "robbery not reason for stop," and the like. They are ignoring the real relevance, which is that it potentially explains Brown's behavior at being stopped.

The second statement by the police chief (was he the chief?) didn't help. It provided the perfect soundbyte without even touching on the excellent point you just brought up.

I don't even know for sure what you're referring to, but I can just about guarantee you're referring to the Ferguson police chief. He's an idiot. Capt. Johnson, on the other hand, is a real, live dude!

They're saying the officer didn't know he was the guy that robbed the gas station. That the officer approached him because Mike was walking down the middle of the street blocking traffic. The officer then saw the cigars in his hand and then made the connection. I have no doubt that Mike assaulted the officer in some way. He clearly was a punk thug.

Someone (and I don't recall who) in the FPD gave a second statement this afternoon that basically said "Wilson was unaware of the robbery and stopped Brown because he was walking in the middle of the street." Which is all well and good, but it completely removes the stop from the context of the robbery, as if they couldn't possibly have any relation. And that's what the media and the twitterverse have been seizing on.

But, as LG pointed out, the robbery could give a great deal of context to Brown's reaction to being stopped. How could he have known the cop wasn't about to nab him for robbery, and maybe even assault?

Whoever it was that made the statement, it was just a disaster.

Can you cite that? I've seen where the cop didn't know but i haven't seen where he made the connection.

TJ made that last video IIRC a day or two after the initial shooting. He's been quiet on that front since then unless something recent has gone up.
