FBI locks down Pilot HQ?

Come on, this has nothing to do with football players. You don't bust out the FBI, and IRS on paying football players. This is much bigger. This could be a combo of tax evasion and gas price fixing. Pilot pretty much sets the gas prices for all of Knoxville and surrounding area. FBI doesn't just up and decide to raid a business either. That was a task force that entered that building and they would have been gathering intel for some time now to make a move like that.

Unless I'm missing something nobody has mentioned this being about football players. The discussion has been based on the fact that since they are going to be digging through finances who knows what will show up in the proccess.

Even if it turns up they were paying players, this isnt illegal. It might be against NCAA policy to pay players but its not illegal to pay anyone as long as its documented.
With the number of truckstops Pilot and Flying J have, even paying every member of the football team well would be a mere drop in the bucket. The IRS wouldnt come after them for that petty amount. It probably has to do with accounting practices.

I don't think that you (and a few other posters) understand where that theory is coming from. If the FBI and IRS start exploring the money trails of any and all Pilot/Haslam expenditures, it could turn up something involved with UT that hasn't otherwise been reported.

There's absolutely, positively NO WAY that the FBI/IRS are at Pilot HQ because they're suspicious that the Haslams have been boosting a little too well for UT. Although, I'm sure that the NCAA would love it if they could sick the Feds on schools.

What I (and a few others) are saying is FBI goes in looking for documentation to support whatever case that they've been building against Pilot/Haslams, and they come across some money that was previously unaccounted for that was tied up with UT or players. The FBI obviously isn't concerned with the fact that UT/players are involved, but they could still release those findings. Either to the NCAA, or to the public.

So, in short, I don't think that anyone thinks the FBI is there investigating UT.
They're obviously there investigating a case that they've been building against Pilot for a far bigger issue, but who knows what could turn up. Especially because the Haslams are considered a bigger booster among the UT faithful.

Why are we even discussing paying players? The FBI and IRS would not come to Pilot HQ because of UT athletes.

Alabama turned us in to the FBI and IRS because they're jealous of all the good players we've been buying lately.

Also the US Treasury Dept is there.

I confirmed this earlier. Scroll up.

Guys, this is tied to only a few people, and 100% NOT the Haslams. The people involved are less than 4 from my understanding - they will be persecuted and Pilot will pay a 7 or 8 figure fine.

Just some speculation I've heard from people who work there who would know.

I don't think the Haslams, if they are paying players, would be stupid enough to leave an easy-to-follow paper trail behind as evidence.

The only thing this has to do with UT football is that it could mean that the AD gets less of a donation from a big donor.

fyp.
That was a funny typo. The last time I heard about someone being persecuted, I was watching The Bible on History Channel.

Exactly. Most likely it's either tax evasion or price gauging again. Either way, UT will only be hurt financially due to the financial losses that the Haslam's may take as a result of this.

Meaning we all need to step our game up, when it comes to donations.

Wow. That's awful.
This part is especially irritating: "The U.S. provides more than $1 billion to Egypt each year." I guess we feel like we have to give out money to keep peace everywhere.

Yep, and its not just money. Earlier this year the US gave Egypt four F-16 fighter jets.

Agents appeared particularly focused on IT, accounting and customer services offices, he added.

“They didn’t seem like they were on a witch hunt,” the staffer said. “They seemed like they knew what they were looking for.”

Sounds like someone didn't get the $.03 gas credit for all of the coffee they bought:)
