I would have said Checker's/Rally's based on my fnd remeberance of the Big Buford when I discovered them in Augusta, GA back in '09. They opened a Checker's here in Cookeville not too long ago. I went. Haven't been back. Not sure what the patty was made of. Soooo....I either have a misguided memory of how good I thought they were at the time, or they've had a fundamental shift in their quality. I now rescind my sentiment of Checker's.

Best fast burger I ever had hands down is now hard to find. Started in the early 80's. Declined in the 90's. It's a small chain and I remember them in my hometown in GA from years ago. Don't know if they are still there but they still exist in some capacity. But...Central Park always had fantastic burgers at great prices, especially the combo's. They originated in Chattanooga and spread into GA and the SE. Took some beatings as a chain company. But, I think they are coming back from obscurity. There is an operatinal store in Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga for sure. Seems to still be open on Western Ave in K'Town as well. The only one left in Chattanooga is off Hixon Pike North and 153. From what I can find on them they are attempting to re-birth.

What get's my goat is fast food joints are now installing the automated order taking fake voice talking AI systems. Checker's has done it, and other than the decline of their burger is hte primary reason I haven't gone back.

Now, Bojangle's has done it. I told the manager I refuse to speak to that thing and went inside. Told her inside the only reason I came to the store was the line at Hardee's was wrapped around the building because you get greeted by a real person still over there at the drive thru, and that if she's wondering why her drive thru was now empty for breakfast when it used to be longer than Hardee's she has her answer.

I'm the opposite with Checkers. I order on the app. Voice at the windows asks to help me. I say I'm picking up a mobile order for Dr RosenRosen. Voice says drive around. That's it. No waiting on a person. No repeating my name. Haven't had an incorrect order in a long time and they usually have my order as I get to the window.

I admit here McD's has converted me to the app due to the coupons and so forth. Food's bad, but at least it's cheaper in the app.

My favorite fast food burger of all-time is probably the Hardee’s Frisco Burger. I haven’t been to Hardee’s in a couple of years though. Don’t know if they still have it. Second place is probably Burger King’s A1 Ultimate Bacon Double Cheeseburger.

Whataburger has a great grilled chicken sandwich, even better than Chick-Fil-A. But I’ve never had their burgers.

Wendy's all the way. I hardly ever eat it because my kids like McDuck's and we don't do a lot of fast food in the first place, but Wendy's is still it.

I grabbed a Wendy's burger at the Dallas airport a few months back, and I'm still dreaming about it. It was the best one I've ever had. It looked like they made it for a TV commercial. It was perfect in every way and it tasted better than it looked. They gave me their best fries, too. Was Woflgang Puck back there? I'll be chasing that dragon the rest of my life..

I like In-N-Out but never really understood the huge lines. Also, always thought it was surprising they never branched into the Southeast, their hidden Bible verse callouts on all the cups, containers and wrappers seemed ready-made for the region (didn’t mean that as cynical as it may have sounded).

The Habit Burger Grill is pretty good too, although I don’t think there are any in Tennessee yet. I like the caramelized onions on the burgers, though their food can get a bit salt-heavy. And Smashburger is pretty good as well.

The Habit might be my top choice on that tier of burger joint (Five Guys, In N Out, Smashburger, etc.).

I've never had an In-N-Out burger. Looking forward to trying it at some point.
IMO, you need to be sure and get both the burgers and the fries animal style.

Their food is really good, but one critique of it that I agree with is that their burgers and especially their fries are pretty plain and ordinary without it.
