Fallout 4

What's the deal with Settlers? I've helped a couple groups out doing their missions but that seems to be about it so far.

I think I left my power suit at the Red Rocket. Haven't used it since the initial section when you kill that big rat/whatever.

I went to Diamond City. Then, I found the detective. That's when I quit last night.

Not my favorite game thus far, but it's interesting enough I'll keep playing it.

You eventually build settlements with them and as the settlement sizes increase Militiamen just start randomly being created. After I had probably 20 settlers total over several settlements I ran across a group of Militiamen cleaning out some Raiders. Also eventually you can build stores which produces income.

I haven't moved the main storyline to know if they play other roles. But they mostly seem like another method to get more missions in the game

It's like Minecraft. If the building/designing aspect doesn't appeal to you it's a pretty pointless feature.

I think the settlements are implemented very well. I built up Sanctuary and am planning another one at the drive-in. I was trying to clear the Raiders out of the Corvega plant last night and I spent an hour cleaning up that site and building structures instead.

I agree but I think the way they made it somewhat dependent on power cores and very slow and cumbersome to use make it more of a "vehicle" than all purpose armor.

to me it doesn't feel like i am adventuring while in it, so I never use it. also the part about it degrading where other stuff doesn't puts a big point in the favor of not using it, imo. And I plan on gathering as many of them as I can, as well as cores, just so in the late game I can use it, without having "wasted" any of it when I didn't want or need it.

I have four suits of power armor just sitting around. I could use it to clear out some of the tougher areas but I sort of like having to come back later with better equipment. You usually don't have to do that in Bethesda games since Morrowind.

Already spent to many hours on this game. Rank 24 right now. Ive spent more time building up my sanctuary settlement than anything else

Ran into a legendary Glowing One (super powerful ghoul).... only time I've had to come back with my power armor and issue a proper what-for

Totally addicted to this one

Yep. It's a lost art in mainstream RPGs nowadays. But they nailed it here, especially on Survival difficulty.

I found a bunker/shelter early in the game that was full of synths and even a deathclaw, all of which killed me in one hit.

Came back about 10 hours later and barely managed to kill all of the synths, but the deathclaw still one-shot kills me. I love that. Will probably be another 15 hours of gameplay before I'm strong enough to go toe-to-toe with them without power armor.

So a few words of advice. If you find the swan, leave it the freak alone. also do not explore the Museum of Witchcraft, or whatever. An even bigger deathclaw in there.

I have three suits of power armor, but only one is complete. Going to wait on using it until it is fully modded.

Has anyone done a bobble head spree yet? Thinking about trying to find those next. The missions have gotten similar right now and I am bored with settlements, I guess that is what I deserve for not progressing the storyline.

On the settlement side I finally have everyone pretty much happy, and safe. turrets, turrets everywhere. Including my drive in fortress with a defense rating of 96.

I'm getting Fallout with a bundle I just bought for PS4. I've never played any of the Fallouts so I am a noob lol. Any suggestions would be awesome from you guys. I have been watching videos on youtube to get sort of familiar with the game, but I don't really understand why people pick up pretty much every item they see? How do you know what to pick up and what to leave?

Before in Fallout, most items were just useless junk; but in Fallout 4, everything that was once considered scrap can now be broken down for use in crafting and building settlements.

So wooden items can be broken down into wood, metal items into metal, etc.? Is there a limit on how many things you can hold?

Yep. In your pip boy you can see what an item breaks down into when it is viewed.

As far as carrying things, there's a weight limit that can varry based on stats. Every item has a weight stat, but some have no weight at all. If you exceed your weight limit you can only walk, and if I remember correctly, you can't fast travel.

Your strength stat will determine how much you can carry. I started with 6 strength because I'm a hoarder lol. But I wanted my other stats tk be decent.
I would suggest after leveling up to use a perk points on increasing health once, I had to put one on advanced lock picking because I came across a bunch. And armor and weapons crafting perks. Level one will be useful and you can sell stuff that you craft for XP. Those were my first selections. And I added a point to my actual Agility and Luck stats to strengthen my Critical and VaTs.

I found Swan last night... thankfully I caught him on my VATS tracker and didn't alert him to my presence.

I try to save the chems I find until I can combine them at chemist stations for more powerful buffs.

Pyschobuff is my go to if things start going downhill

I've never played fallout before, but everyone at work keeps talking about it. So, I think I'm going to pick it up tonight on my way home and give it a shot.

its a time sink. Its not a pick up and play game. This is a "I have a day to waste" game. That being said I think 4 has gotten a lot better than any of Bethseda's other games as far as pick up and play.

I would suggest just having a companion. Use the perk on other things that will help in the game play and help you level. the companion can carry things for you, and are pretty good in combat. Sadly, and I might get blown up for this, but the companion AI in Fallout4 is better than the companion AI in Halo5. roast away.

Stoked, don't worry about picking up stuff until you need them. I would suggest early on only pick up ammo (always, always, always) weapons, armor, and chems (always, always, always). The game takes some time to get into and understand, but be patient and soon you will be wondering what happened to your weekend and why you have irl friends. :)

I was dumb enough to try. a couple of one shots later I decided I would listen to all the warning signs. I am at that tweener place. A high enough level to just walk into a room full of super mutants and survive, but low enough where one shots are still possible.

Finally getting around to modding my weapons and armor which has greatly helped. Everything ends up "marksman hardened scoped (gun type)".

Got a .50 cal sniper last night, need to use it.

The companions are so cool in this game. Way better than F3 and Skyrim's lifeless drones (Serana notwithstanding). I'm glad they took that cue from New Vegas.

I like the dog, but he keeps getting in the way. I have purposely tried shooting him a few times to get him out of my way, but you can not kill him.

Plus I shot the ******* from the Brotherhood of Steel in the head, but then done a quick load to go back. It just felt good.

you can always have them not follow you.

Wait--the dog can't die? Is that true on all difficulty modes? I swear I thought Dogmeat died at one point and I had to restart. If that's the case, I'm never wasting a stimpack on that dirty mongrel ever again.
