Why not?? Let's see what the vast majority thinks. I'll even update this if anyone else has a question they'd like to throw in for the masses to answer. Here we go.

PAST:

1: John Ward is the greatest college football announcer of all time, and anyone that says different should be tarred, feathered, drawn and quartered at the 50 yard line of Neyland Stadium.

PRESENT:

1: Tennessee's defense gets 5 total sacks vs. Mizzou.

2: Tennessee defeats Mizzou by 10+

3: Jalen Hurd and Josh Dobbs combine for 250+ yards rushing.

4: Tennessee's secondary picks off Mauk 3 times.

5: The smokey greys make their one and only appearance vs. Mizzou.

FUTURE:

1: Tennessee embarasses Vanderbilt in Neyland West by 40+ points.

2: After winning out, the Vols are picked by a much "higher" bowl than previously thought (i.e. Outback vs. Belk, etc)

3: Tennessee wins the bowl game to finish 8-5 on the year.

4: CBJ and company use the momentum to land a consensus (read: all sites have us in their) top 5 recruiting class.

5: Come what may, AJ Johnson is a first-day NFL draft pick.

6: The Vols, with a more experienced OL, a QB that's built for the offense, a defense that's returning all but one starter (IIRC), and a metric buttload of playmakers, win 9 or more games next year.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand, GO.

Present #5: I don't understand the fascination with grey uniforms. It seems that every week there are a couple of them on TV. It's become a "me too" exercise rather than a statement.

If I heard correctly, the grey uniforms are not an option. The Coaches and Players did not like this years version from Adidas. Last year Butch gave the Seniors their grey jersey to keep and therefore there are not enough numbers to use.

I'm glad Ward was the announcer when he was...back before every game was on TV. I don't think he would be as appreciated in this day and age.

His style was one of a kind.

How many UT announcers have you heard, 2? Did you ever hear of the great Lindsey Nelson who became a national sports announcing legend? What did you find wrong with George Mooney? Children should not be allowed to talk in the presence of adults.

I've certainly heard tapes of Mooney and remember Nelson announcing other things but not UT sports, even though I know he goes way back with UT.

Ward was the announcer I grew up with and was my connection to UT football and basketball.

I don't like Soccer, but I'd love to hear a soccer announcer call a football game.

I apologize for my tone. OP was asking a question, and I responded as if he were making a statement. It just seems that if there is a stadium on campus named for a sports announcer that guy might deserve some consideration.

As far as announcers of the past, I always liked Keith Jackson, Charlie Jones, and Lindsey Nelson. Don't anoint John Ward as number 1 unless you take all the other greats into consideration.

You are probably right about Ward, because of length of service. The fact that Nelson was the first Vol Network announcer, is in the sportscasters HOF, received commissioners awards from both pro football and baseball, do not compare with being here forever. Let's give Ward six, and I will now shut up.

You don't need to apologize. You're allowed to voice your opinion. That's what this place is for. :good!:

George Mooney was just awful. You could not tell what was going on. Make it sound like Vol was going all the way and he was tackled for a 2 yard loss. Basketball was even worse. Was a joyous day when Ward took over.

John Ward was good. He called high school games way back when I was playing ball in high school. In later years calling the Vols, he was a bit scripted and self serving, but who isn't? But no, he never reached the heights of Lindsey Nelson who started out as the voice of the Vols.

But for you who remember, George Money was great. I loved his on air blunders. On a particular kick, he got all excited and called it a tremendous 55 yard KUNT! He got lost between kick and punt and the result was hilarious.

And he is credited with starting the Vol Navy. Anybody remember any George Mooney stories they can share?

1: Tennessee's defense gets 5 total sacks vs. Mizzou.

Missouri's only giving up about 15 sacks across 10 games (so 1.5 a game, tied for 28th in the country...1.6 if we look across just SEC games)

And we're about 19th with

It'd be nice - and we'll get to him some - but I don't think it's going to be 5 times.

2: Tennessee defeats Mizzou by 10+

I think whoever wins, it's going to be one of those games where the winner scores again late and it doesn't look as close as it was.

3: Jalen Hurd and Josh Dobbs combine for 250+ yards rushing.

Not likely. Only because we've only actually crossed 200 the last two games and both situations were against teams with very poor running defenses. Granted we are running the ball about 10-20 plays more than we previously were.

Missouri's defense allows about 131 yards/game across 10 games (136 per game if just looking at power 5 opponents, but 119 yards per game in conference play).

I wouldn't be surprised to see us get over the 200 mark, but I don't think we'll hit 250 without there being a long, busted defense kind of run.

4: Tennessee's secondary picks off Mauk 3 times.

Mauk hasn't thrown multiple interceptions since the UGA game (4), and that was pretty much the only time all year ( I just watched his film from that game...to be honest, two of those the receivers knocked knocked a hanging ball back up).

Our defense also only has 3 picks across the last 4 games, so while I think we'll likely pick off one pass, I don't think that number will be that high unless their QB play just self-destruct.

5: The smokey greys make their one and only appearance vs. Mizzou.

Maybe, but if it's senior night it's probably best to play in Orange. I think it'll just be orange for that reason.

1: Tennessee embarasses Vanderbilt in Neyland West by 40+ points.[/quote]

Pretty likely it's a big win.

2: After winning out, the Vols are picked by a much "higher" bowl than previously thought (i.e. Outback vs. Belk, etc)

The SEC front offices are now deciding/placing where the non-playoff-committee-selected teams play, so there's no real way to accurately gauge this. So probably not.

3: Tennessee wins the bowl game to finish 8-5 on the year.

Don't like to call wins till I see who we're playing. I will say that even if we finish 8-5, we're not going to be in the final rankings (AP/Coaches) for the year

4: CBJ and company use the momentum to land a consensus (read: all sites have us in their) top 5 recruiting class.

5: Come what may, AJ Johnson is a first-day NFL draft pick.

You're aware first-day is now just the first round, right? No chance.

6: The Vols, with a more experienced OL, a QB that's built for the offense, a defense that's returning all but one starter (IIRC), and a metric buttload of playmakers, win 9 or more games next year.

8-9 is a good starting bar.
