Extremely premature coaching candidate discussion (merged)

Gary Patterson holds a grudge against the university over the way we handled him when we hired Kiffin. He won't ever coach here.

Ok fellow Vol maniacs lets look towards the future. Let's say for instance UT goes 7-5 this year, and 2016. If, and I mean a big if, a change is made at the head coaching position in 2017 does Gruden seriously consider it? The talent will be mostly in place this time around. If the $ is there, and the timing is right, will Jon come marching home????

Please stop don't wake up the Gruden threads again...
I think they are still going on as we speak

Why do you think he would leave ?

I just think he knows he has done about all he can do at Miss State and is ready to move on. He's taken them to heights they haven't seen and there is really nowhere else to take them, I think he knows he won't win championships in the SECw.

Also, he knows the stature of the UT job because of his time at UF. He and UF's AD Foley do not get along which is why McElwain got hired and Mullen didn't get much of a look. I think Mullen would love to take over UT and get an annual shot to stick it to UF.

Ok I was thinking about if we fire jones then who could we realisticly hire that would be worth his buyout .

Any coach Tennessee hires will have things to learn and the team will also have to learn a new system .

Realisticly it's not worth fireing butch before we give him a extended time to coach here

I don't understand the"realistic" caveat. We can hire anyone with enough money.

Also, there should be no assumption that the team takes a step backward if we hire the RIGHT coach. For example of a right coach, see Jim Mcelwain and his 4-0 Gators.

I think Cutcliffe would be a fantastic hire. Obviously it would be a short term hire, but that is ok. He would do wonders with the talent in the program. I think he could win 10 games year one with these guys. Since he's a TN guy already, you would likely limit the transfers. I think he'd be great just to completely stabilize this program for a few years.

Realistically Butch is going nowhere this season. He deserves to get 2016. BUT, this Saturday has a lot to do with it. He loses Saturday and it's going to be an uphill battle just to get this team to a bowl. If he doesn't make a bowl this season, I'm not sure he deserves 2016.

We wont go 7 and 5 in 2016 we will go 10 and 2, we all knew this was a 8 and 4 team at best 9 win team, we still will win 8, i know its hard to take but we still got a very good young football team, now if we lose to Arkansas and go 5 and 7 then we make a move first of all we Tennessee will not pay the BIG BUCKS for the so called big name coaches we have proven that, so do we wont another DD, i dont why dont we kick back and let the season un fold and then at the end of the season, then have a melt down, right now isnt the time for that, it will effect the recruiting classes of 16 and 17.

I'm tellin' ya', I talked to my wife's, hairdressers, garbage pickup guy, who heard from the Gruden's ex yardman's, third cousin who once owned property near Gruden's in-laws that they are not coming to K'ville......................................BOOK IT! LOL

Volnation:
"DeBord will be a terrible OC! He hasn't coached in years"
"Gruden should be our next HC! He's amazing!"

Gruden hasn't coached since 2008...
LOGIC

All eyes on the Razorbacks this weekend. Lose that game and Butch will be on the hottest seat in the NCAA.

We cant lose this game or the team will quit on him, it will be the biggest game he has every coached in, and i dont know if he can handle the pressure of the game, because deep down this one game could affect the future of this program and his future at Tennessee there will be a lot riding on this game, plus the Hogs are saying the same thing after losing this past Saturday, both coaches are coaching for there future.

I think Dan Mullen would leave MSU for UT in a heartbeat. He may not be the sexiest choice but MSU was Vandy of the SECw before he got there and he's had them in contention for the last few years.

With what he did with Tebow at UF as their OC and Prescott now, I think he'd kill it with Dobbs in year one.

Billy C is rolling in his grave.
