This.I think it is about competition. We should be in a position to win the SEC East every year and win the SEC from time to time. Now I know that's unrealistic to be in a position every year to win the East, but I think we should always be competing with Georgia and Florida. I do not think we should be swept by them or ever at the bottom of the East. We need to be controlling our own destiny at season's end, not counting on other teams to achieve our goals for us.
We should be more competitive with the West, our current trend has pretty much resulted in a L every time we line up against a West opponent. Also, we need to be more competitive against top 25 teams. We have a horrible record against them as well lately.
The program should always finish the season in the top 25. We really should not lose more than 3 games a year. I know an 8-5/9-4 season may occur, but it should be the outlier not the norm. There may also be an upset thrown in occasionally, but never losses to inferior opponents multiple times in a season. We need to start winning the games we are supposed to win, and even winning some that we are not, and quit losing games we are supposed to win. When Tennessee beats a high quality, top 25 opponent it should not be seen as an upset, we should be a high quality, top 25 team too. We should be striving to have 10 wins every season.
There used to be a swagger and attitude to this Tennessee program, we were respected and feared. People did not want to line up against us. We were one of the best teams in the country. We have got to get that mentality back at Tennessee.
Literally no reasonable fans have said either of those lists. Try again.Back in the day: win 10+ games, win the SEC at least every other year, and finish with a top 10 recruiting class
Now: win 8 games, don't worry about winning the East because 6 wins gets you a bowl game anyway, beat Vandy, hopefully finish with top 20 recruiting class

Win 7-9 games a year. Go to a minor bowl with a huge sellout of allotted tickets. Have a clever coach, who makes us proud with witty statements like "life champions". Meanwhile, youngsters in the state become Bama or Titan fans.
Life is good for The Vol Faithful.
