Expectations for Pruitt's 2nd year

So 79-12 the past 2 years is playing UGA tough? Lol. Ok. Bama is probably a loss? They will slaughter us again. By burying the usual suspects, do you mean beating up on the super weak teams on our schedule but losing to Missouri and Vandy?

Just another post from him from fantasy land. He’s never right.

Barring an injury to JG, 7-5 regular season is a reasonable expectation for a competent SEC coach....

JG stays healthy... 6-6 at best.

Need someone else to get a shot.

This is a 9 win team this year with the right QB...

I want to sit and watch Tennessee spank GA state, then we’ll go from there. I’m just looking forward to one good game, not a N Texas nightmare, or an ETSU tease, but a beat down where we nail them. That’s what I’m looking forward to!!

Not counting vacated games, Saban went 2 and 6 in SEC play during his first year. He was 8 and 0 in his second year.

Part of me wants to keep my expectations low so I won't be disappointed but I'm also expecting a second year surge.

We need to beat at least one of FLA, ALA or UGA and combine that with 3 wins against Vandy, KY and USCjr. That will get us bowl eligible with a couple of wins over non conference teams and I'd be satisfied that the season was a success if that all happens. That's what I expect. Am I expecting to much too soon?

What's your expectations?
I expect to lose the 3 against Bama, fl and ga. I expect to win the others with mizzou and uscjr being flip games.

I'm hoping to see some things like.....
- The OL showing some push (vs. getting blown up at the LOS), that it can withstand an injury or two and that 3rd and one is more a gimme than not, on the ground.
- The offense can ligitimately score in the 20s or more against higher ranked opponents. That it'll use the entire field of play ..... like the middle.
- That the defense has the talent and decent depth to play the 4th quarter, and not just get run over.
- That the defense is good enough to stop the run such that opposing teams will have to put it in the air to win. Make them play to our strengths.
- Better balance overall. The offense actually sustaining drives and winning the time of possession each game.
- That at some point in the season I get the feeling that JG and crew can, with some regularity, convert 3rd and 5-7.
- Go bowling.

6 or 7 wins. We don’t get blown out by anyone.

Has Trey been cleared to play. I hope so for the kid. He's a gamer who deserves a shot at the NFL.

He hasn’t. If he does, he will have to play without taking blood thinners and that’s why the blood clots came back last year. It’s a very delicate situation with his life on the line. Everyone wants him to be fine and get a chance to pursue his dreams, but it’s a huge risk. JMO

I guess my expectations is to watch players that he brought in as freshman like alonta Taylor and Bryce Thompson , and see what kinda improvements they make from year one to year two with the only head coach they ha e had being Pruitt so I can put some expectations on year three ....... And a bowl game would be nice as well

Interesting. Average or better DL gets 8+ wins.
I Assume you count all non SEC games as wins. (4).
I Assume you count UGA and UA as losses (2).
Which means you think against MSU, VU, USC, UF, Mizz, UK we can go 4-2 or better?

That would be an outstanding improvement.

I'm a bit more pessimistic.
Would be a good improvement.

I'm just not buying Mizzou like so many others. They weren't great defensively last year when you consider their competition. Arkansas right now really skews the results of anyone who plays them. I think Bryant is a good QB. Lock was a GREAT QB. I don't think they'll be that good. I also don't see USCe being anything more than they've been. I don't think UK will be as good or Vandy with a new QB.

The interesting thing about UF is that UT gave the game away with turnovers. The result may have been the same but it never developed as a game because UT set UF up so often.

And maybe I place more of a premium on coaching than I should. Pruitt may not be far off calling this the best collection of resumes in CFB.

1. Saban loses a National Championship because he lost CJP
2. UT is in SEC Shape; size, strength and weight
3. No one knows what this team can do, this team doesn't resemble last year's team.
4. They could actually lose only two games, but we just don't know, but trying to take my orange glasses off, this team can play toe to toe with everyone............yes, everyone.
5. Barring injuries............10-2 (with Orange Glasses) 8-4 without.

Go Big Orange!
I like the way you think!

You are PATHETIC! You are actually wanting a member of the UT Volunteers to get hurt just because you don't like them?! Please remove yourself from this board.

I expect them to go at least 7-5 and look like a coherent team in all games. Even if they get beat, the can look like the have a clue they know how to play football and have some idea how the plays are supposed to work. Maybe even eek out an unexpected win or two.

The right QB is JG. If one of the others were better there would be a discussion but there’s not. You’d complain if we started a freshman this year and went 5-7 again. JG is the best we’ve got on this roster right now and from an experience standpoint. They can get 9 wins with him, without him? 6 at Best Buy probably 5-7

I think in year 2 with the dumpster fire Pruitt inherited I wouldn’t look in the win/loss column to decide if we are on pace, although 7-5 is reasonable to expect. Instead I’m going to concentrate on “margin of loss” if you will against teams that beat us handedly last year.
We should be within 10 win or lose vs Florida. Within 17 in our loss to Bama.
And within 13 to UGA in our loss.
We gotta beat Vandy and compete with Missouri.

That all being said we don’t know which Butch guys quit last year either. That could rear its ugly head again for all we know.
The way the game is played like basketball on grass these days and with a ridiculous offense like Bama’s it isn’t hard to have a game where things just get away from you. Look at the National Championship game. I don’t think anyone would’ve guessed Bama could possibly lose by that many points to anyone. I’m not going to be worried if UGA or Bama beats us by 30 in a single game. For another example look at Ohio St the last couple of years and they were significantly better than Purdue and Iowa. I’ll be much more worried if we see it multiple times. UGA and Bama are so far ahead of us that I’d almost guarantee one of them will beat us by at least 3 TDs. Hopefully we can keep both of them from doing it and surely we can stop any other team from doing so.

That’s my point overall. I’m just looking for them to be more competitive in those games. And if we are better than or at the point of expectation we could easily cut the margin of victory of those 2 teams. I think we can beat Florida the way we sit as long as we don’t beat ourselves like last year.

This. Anything more win wise is pure luck but a pleasant surprise.
No. Coaching and a competent development program can make up for other deficiencies.

UT needs breaks to win more than 8. The range should be 6-8.... no "luck" involved.

Go 4-0 in non conf games. Get lucky against FL or GA and beat KY and Vandy this year and if injuries are kept to a minimum and JG stays upright this year they MIGHT go 8-4 but I’m expecting anything from 6-6 to 7-5....
