I had a 3.76 when I got accepted 4 years ago. Then, that was above average. I also had a 27 ACT score. They accepted people with scores as low as 19 when I got in. Now, however, it is a lot more competitive because of the HOPE scholarship.

I think a solid ACT score makes the difference, now. It probably wouldn't hurt to have pretty strong extracurriculars, either.

H.S. GPA is a factor? If anyone has ever told you that you have and Indian ancestor then check the box that you are a Native American.

GPA with real classes or just classes in general.I can say this, if you're not in upper level Math,English, etc., you'll suffer consequences for admissions and once class starts.BTW,all my family which includes 3 boys, has college just not at UT.Maryville,MTSU,dad (UT Nashville).

I'm fairly certain that if it's WAAY back, then you can't legally do that. And if it's ever found out that you're really only 1/32nd+ at best, then it could get you kicked out of school, ESPECIALLY if claiming "American Indian" status got you some scholarship money, which it could easily do.

1/16th, I THINK, is about as little as one MIGHT be able to claim...

The university will know for sure, so I'd ask them first before marking it.

The only way they could check is to ask you for a tribal ID card. If that happens, just say your great-grandmother was a Cherokee. How can they prove otherwise? I've known someone who did this and not only was he admitted to a school that probably would not have otherwise accepted him, but he got a full scholarship as well. Again, I'm not telling someone to lie or comit fraud. I'm just saying that if you've been told you have an Indian ancestor you should be able to check the Native American box in good conscience.

My high school GPA was a 3.85, but I transferred after a couple of years of college with a 3.7 college GPA. I should add that I am a current student and started here in August of '06.

I had a 3.4 and a 31 ACT. Back in 99' that was a gimme for admittance but I've heard I would be borderline now due to the HOPE scholarship increasing the number of applicants.

I only had a 24 on the ACT and a 3.58 GPA and got accepted here twice. I graduated in 03, applied and was accepted. Long story short I had no money, so I took a year off, worked in construction and got accepted again in 04
