Everyone Calling UT an Underdog

The line on a game is to balance the betting. Bookies make their living on the juice.

If we want to be picked to win over quality opponents we need to put 4qtrs together in one game rather than needing 2 games.

negavol vs sunshine pumper is getting old.

It would be nice for Loyal Vol Fans to stop bashing players and coaches and stating as fact we will lose a game, leave all that for our the fans of other teams and the bandwagoneer.

But I do realize that some need to prepare for a loss by going on and on about how we will lose. When we do end up losing again, 15+ games from now, we will all be sad, but until then try enjoy every minute of our success, it's a lot of fun.

And as for any team beating #120, I've got to see it to believe it.

I can't wait to see us convert an onside kick.

Go Vols!

And who exactly has stated as fact that we're gonna lose this game?

[/B]

is there some truth here? yeah, i'm sure there are those that would prefer to be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. human nature.

but what i see, more times than not, is just honest football discussion on what they see us vs. the opponent. Predicting a loss, for those people, is merely an observation on the match ups.

everyone that may predict a loss is not some headcase with confidence issues.

i predicted we'd lose to FL because of the front 7 match up for our O line. 1st half played like i thought it would, minus our defense giving up the big plays.

2nd half....well, i don't think anyone saw a 38-7 finish in that game. but was i happy? yes i was.

against UGA, i didn't see any football reason why we should lose. credit UGA for coming up with a great game plan, and credit TN for making huge plays to ultimately win. but the ending for that game....that just doesn't happen all that often. so you chock it up 1 for the good guys, and move on.

the app st game, also went against the grain. i thought it'd be more competitive than some, but i sure didn't see them leading, and going in to OT, having to rely on a missed PAT and fumble recovery for a TD to win.

so, as a negavol i guess, i'll just say this....the results i'm overly elated with, especially against FL and GA.

but the recipe as to how we got there....well, that's not a recipe that will work game in, game out, and stating that in a fashion related to how we still need to get better if we want to keep getting the results....well, that's not some self esteem issue i, or anyone else, may have.

Lots of stuff this team needs to clean up(so many to list), I'm just glad that 1 major blunder doesn't cost us our chance of win.

Go Vols!

and that is, right now, is one of the biggest differences in this team, to last years.

they have found ways to make plays that change games for the positive, rather than the negative.

and that's a good thing. just can't keep riding the razor's edge like we have, and expect it to keep continuing.

And who exactly has stated as fact that we're gonna lose this game?

Each week some Loyal Vol Fan has come on here saying "when we lose", it happens. It just bugs me when we write off a game with a just because reason.

I hope they win and think they will win, but for the life of me I can't figure out why anyone is surprised that we are the underdog in this game.

Agree. I expect us to win every stinking game but am NOT shocked to see us as a Road Dog. That will make the victory that much sweeter. :dance2:

Interesting. We do have a player with the nickname "Dog" and anyone who watched the last play of the Georgia game saw he ended that game as the Top Dog in the end zone.

No under about the Vols.

UT gets no respect -- butch should post the point spread all over the bulletin board to get the players juiced!

I am not surprised we are underdogs but I am surprised by the "surrendering " I have read on here . Thank God some on here never served in the military.

Come on, MOTO, not exactly the same meaning of "surrender", my friend. Also, I think their concern is that the Aggies, next to Alabama, will be the toughest opponent we play and the fact it's in College Station. Me thinks we'll have to play four complete quarters of smart football to prevail.

I really don't even know how to respond to this. Is it me this morning? Did someone put something in my coffee?

The abysmal grammar "I seen" in the post you are referring to from Orange_Vol1321 makes it even more difficult to respond. #stayinschoolkids

As an Aggie I'm not shocked we are favored, a little shocked of where the line is. I thought it would open as a 3 point line. Usually the home team gets 3 points, other than that I feel it's a toss up.

The whole negavol thing is stupid anyway, then to suggest those that have been critical of Jones in the past are "dying for us to lose" is ridiculous and dumb.

Agree. Being critical of Jones for valid reasons often just shows a level of introspection and critical thinking/observation that, let's be honest, many in the fan base do not have. The "we won and that's all that matters" mentality is so one-dimensional it's laughable. Yes, we won, but ignoring the troublesome inconsistencies that will make us vulnerable to losses in future games is ignorant and helps no one.

Anyway, Go Vols! Hoping this is the week that everything clicks from the first quarter!

For our VOLS...scoring may be tough, but I think they move the ball just like they have all year. Clean up some 1st half O misques and it's a ball game.

As for the D....LB and DB play will be critical...they're going to have to step it up this weekend.

GO VOLS!!!!

I hope they win and think they will win, but for the life of me I can't figure out why anyone is surprised that we are the underdog in this game.

This, except that I have yet to see anything that gives me hope that we can put together the full game to win, and I think we lose big. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised, though. But I'm not gonna pump up my confidence and expect it like it's a cake walk only to be dropped like a rock at the end. Just hoping for the best.

Welcome to the board. I think the line is about right to generate betting action on both sides. I really have no idea how this game is going to turn out, but it should be exciting and I'll enjoy every minute of it. Why can't y'all just be in line with pre-season expectations and make this a little easier on all of us? Btw, has Garrett been practicing?

i'm leaning that way. defensive injuries are gonna hurt.

i think the game is a bit of a shootout....

But you haven't said it's a fact we're gonna lose. And I haven't read where anybody else has either.

The matchups aren't favorable, we're playing in the road in front of 103,000 fans vs an undefeated, top 10 SEC team. And we're missing 3 of our 4 best defenders and likely our stud starting running back. I see why we're the underdog, just like you do, and think it's gonna be tough to win. But also like you, I've not stated that it's a fact we're gonna lose.

Is just pissing the team off. Thanks fans and media! If you haven't noticed, this team plays best when they are cornered. Tennessee will play it's most complete game of the year against TAMU because you have told them they can't win. Vols roll.

Tennessee should be the underdog. You know that right? Tennessee absolutely can win, but it will be an upset.

Has anybody done it yet this week? I hadn't noticed. All I've seen is guys sincerely discussing the game/matchup and why they think the oddsmakers have us as an underdog.

If they played ALL quarters like the last 2 quarters of the UF and UGA game, they'd be higher ranked and on track for a Natty....and probably favored in every game except Bama. But they haven't....and they aren't....and they're the underdog.

However.......if the "team of destiny" thing gets in their psyche, there is no telling where this team will end up with the level of talent on the roster.
