Every blog or fan page has driven

me so away from Tennessee football. The hate, negativity, criticism and NegaVol attitude has pushed me away from everything Tennessee football. I once saw 14 years of football games in a row, in person. I presently can’t stand to be with the hateful people that claim to be Vol fans!
This negative energy pervades our program and the Legion of Miserables will never let our team improve. This aura pervades ye program and coaches, and yes, players. It’s an environment that produces losing. Our fans are losers but looking for winning. They don’t go together. Own it, it is a fact!
You've identified a chicken/egg scenario, but I can tell you that Vol fans were a pretty upbeat group back in the 90's before losing games on a regular basis became as certain as death and taxes.

It is the same. Negativity breeds the same result. The coaches were great last year..Terrible this year. Coach Majors called Tennessee fans Legion of the Miserables 40 years ago. Nothing has changed. Our fans have sucked the life out of our program!
UT Fans have nothing to do with the current status of this program. Almost everyone was bought in at the beginning of 2020. You are clueless.

Ok let me help you here....Do you understand how much some of these fans spend on UT football every year?...I don't think you do...It goes way beyond just a football game, Some of these folks spend a great deal of money as boosters and many fly into games from other states and spend a ton of money not only on the game but on hotel expenses and food and the flight back home...Depending on how many family members come with them you are looking at a huge chunk of change for a single game...But they come here knowing they have a program that stinks and yet here they are!...In the stands cheering and going home wondering about how this program could have possibly sunk this low but still they plan for the next game they can fly to....So, It's the fans you say that are the problem huh?...Bud if you spent that kind of money supporting this program you would be pissed off right now as well...The fans deserve a product they can cheer for and believe in and a coaching staff that can produce wins and championships or at least contend for them...People like you who support losing football bug me because you are blind to the fact this program is being run by a bunch of coaches who are in over their heads...The fans don't make UT football, The players and coaches do...All we do is pay to watch them play and wear our orange and white and cheer them on...We don't decide if the coach will get fired or if one gets hired...We can stop going to the games and that will send a message to the higher ups that changes need to be made but we don not decide who get hired and fired...So get off your high horse, Take your medication and go have a tasty burger and get ready for tommorrows game that hopefully we can win...If not get ready because a lot of us are going to be pissed and will most likely post our anger here on good ole VOLnation...If it bothers you that much don't read it and go mow the yard or something.

Thanks, I can barely spend more than 10 minutes a day on Volnation these days, the negativity is sickening.

It’s certainly remarkable to me, the hate for the team. I’ve marveled st that my whole life. What effect it has on football, I don’t really know.

What is there to be positive about? Like what do you sunshine pumpers really expect the conversations on here to be like?
All is well. Rebuilds always take 15 years. Have to be patient. Pruitt is the coach for us. He a) gets it b) really wants to be here and/or c) is in his dream job. Pruitt is a home run hire (not the foul tip into the catcher's mitt hire that his record shows).

I try to follow a stoic philosophy. Focus on those things in my control (which means, mostly, myself and my own actions), spend all my energy there trying to make myself as useful to society as I can be (well, I'm retired now, haha), and waste as little energy as possible on those things beyond my control.

That translates, in part, to not spending time complaining about things outside my reach. (Most folks who don't follow a stoic path see only this aspect of stoicism...so they come to believe that it simply means "no complaining." It is, of course, much more than that.)

Anyway, that's all a preface to my real point. Some years ago, I discovered a useful addendum to the philosophy: share only that which enriches the lives of those around me.

So, for instance, if I have a bad day at work, I don't bring the negative home to my wife or daughters. It wouldn't enrich my life to keep thinking about it, and it wouldn't enrich their lives hearing about it or suffering me in a bad mood.

I do the same here, on VN.com, and anywhere else I interact with people. I try to, I mean. Of course I fail sometimes. I just do my best.

And I honestly think that's related to what Doug posted. Sure, all Vols fans are disappointed with how this season has played out. And we all want to return to championships. But it is possible to be disappointed without being disrespectful. To be frustrated without being offensive.

A lot of folks in this community are being pretty mean-spirited. Hateful. Spiteful. Insulting. Belittling. Of our lads, our coaches, our AD, even each other. And that serves no good purpose. It does not enrich any of us. Not even the person who is "getting it off their chest."

So, if you're one of those folks, my friendly suggestion is: try another way. Try leaving behind the thoughts and feelings that don't enrich you. Get past them as quickly as you can (everyone has to vent a little), and move on to better. Enrich your own life, and do the best you can to enrich the lives of everyone around you, at the same time.

Maybe that's what Doug meant. Something like that, anyway.

I randomly had a Vol fan I had not seen in a year or so tell me almost the exact same thing today. Said the fan base was making them so sick they’ve basically divorced themselves from the program because of it. I’m still hanging with it though!

What a stupid moronic post.

Like we have any say at all about how this team plays.

Get your head out of your azz and blame the coaches.

None of this crap is the fans fault.

Idiot post of the decade.

did you miss the part where I attended EVERY game and so many practices for 14 years? Huh, did you miss that? Money spent on a crap product is crap! Our fanbase expectations and lack of dogging our product is immeasurable. You Sir can be gone, forever!

Sorry to break it to you , but you’re confusing cause and effect.
The Legion of Miserables has not caused our team to not improve, but our teams lack of improvement for the last 20 years has caused the Legion of Miserables.
The Aura that pervades is owned by the Coaches and Players. If it has such a negative effect that it produces losing , then I suggest they change it.
Start winning and watch the Legion disappear.
The fans have 0 ability to do this for them .
All the fans have done is support them and fill the stadium every year.
Let me tell you who OWNS IT!
The ones with the power to change it!
Big money boosters, UT admin, AD’s, coaches and players.

Well buddy boy I can promise you I have supported this program WAY longer than you so you be gone...Don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you.

Good ole Doug wasn't finished digging his hole after all. I think that being in school there in 98 was about as good as it gets. Volnation is about the only good thing Tennessee football left.
