Even More Obamacare Follies

The 2nd dilemma has been going on a long long time. This bs legislation will just shift those costs to the ones who play nice. If you take the penalty for most that will be a couple hundred taken from their few thousand they get in free money every year.

Those going on Medicaid are in a different boat. We are talking about those who can afford a plan but choose to opt out with the penalty.

Are you naïve enough to believe Medicaid isn't abused by financially able people? There was also an article where a guy who was a retired millionaire only had the option for Medicaid on the great ACA website.

No dispute there. You brought up the Medicaid and having other free money.

My point was Obamacare is structured around the young, healthy, able-to-pay folks buying in and subsidizing the old, sick, and poor. If they opt out, the "death spiral" kicks in. Although that is the hope of Conservatives in the long-term, it is at odds on principal with the short term implications.

We should structure a government program that allows the youngest and healthiest amongst us - many who currently opt out of health insurance - to purchase an insurance policy with higher premiums and higher deductibles than is currently available on the market.

What could go wrong??

Nothing, if you are deluded by the ideal of universal healthcare as a right via massive wealth distribution.

I wonder why the left doesn't try to justify it similiar to social security.

They're structured similarly. Except there's no opt out on ss. I believe an opt out would be very popular there.

interesting tidbit

In a recent Texas debate, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said the CEO of IBM had told President Barack Obama how to save billions of dollars in health-care fraud.
In a 2010 interview, IBM’s CEO said: "We could have improved quality and reduced the costs of the health-care system by $900 billion. … I said we would do it for free to prove that it works. They turned us down."

Gingrich says Obama passed up IBM's offer to find health-care savings | PolitiFact Texas

2010 interview? Brought up by GOP potus nominee hopeful criticizing Obama?

Well gosh, no denying that.

if you click the link you will notice there is a video with an interview with IBM's CEO. Now if you believe that IBM's CEO has a reason to criticize Obama then I'd be interested to hear your reasoning. If you simply saw the name Gingrich and looked no further then that's on you

also that video link I mentioned is to the WSJ so don't worry about your computer catching a right-wing virus

Dude, where am I going wrong? Millions of people like me are going to opt out. I will leave people (a lot of posters on here) on the hook if they get the off-chance medical bill. One is either self-centered or have some sense of personal responsibility/collective duty to not pass their risk/responsibility on to others.

Lawd How Mercy.

The young man that continuously post that he wants all the older people to die so his generation does not have to supplement their healthcare expenses has chosen to opt out of buying health insurance but does expect everyone pay for his medical bills should he get sick, have a heart attack etc.. Just a tad hypocritical there PKT.

Not voted on but the healthcare plan pushed by the GOP. Something about their plan you don't agree with? I would think not since these are all republican ideas.

You've taken up LG's tactic of trying to halt debate by pointing out that some aspects of the ACA were once GOP ideas.

Stupid ideas are stupid ideas no matter who is proposing them.

Wrong.. some on here act like every idea the GOP has is brilliant and every Dem idea is bad. Just showing some FACTS. It is beyond me how intelligent people are so color blind when politics are involed. The truth is both sides have a few good ideas and a bunch of bad ones. Both sides are hypocritical liars.

Most sane people agree both aren't great but the dems seem to wanna take more of everybody's money that actually works & distribute to the poor, lazy, & unfortunate whereas the GOP wants people to be self sufficient. If you choose to have insurance you should be taken care of. If you choose not to you should deal with the consequences.

Get serious Gramps, anything that comes attached with an (R) behind it is automatically dismissed by this Administration and Democratic Party..

You've taken up LG's tactic of trying to halt debate by pointing out that some aspects of the ACA were once GOP ideas.

Can't be true. The administration automatically rejects every Republican idea.

39 GOP amendments to the ACA were rejected by the Pelosi-led democrat congress. So yeah, GOP ideas were rejected, many without even an up or down vote.

They didn't want the ideas or influence then and they don't want it now.

Polling numbers change ones stance and agenda rather quick.

Where did I say I was going to opt out? I said there are millions of people like me (in my position) who are going to opt out.
