Evan Berry Kick Return Fumble

CABVOL - Are you sure about that? If that's true then JRM's hit on the App state kick returner was not tartgeting because the dude was not "defenseless".. he crouched down and braced for the hit prior to JRM arriving

Bang bang play but App St player's knee was on the ground.

So I guess JRM is a POS? Or the played who hit #12 later? A lot of these plays are super fast, and it's hard to say they are doing it on purpose. Certainly some targeting is purposeful, but I'm not sure #12 was going there to KO Berry the same way JRM wasn't going out to hit the PR.

Knee jerk reaction whenever someone you cheer for is hit like that.

He got lit up later so it all worked out!

Targeting call is against defenseless players. Berry was the ball carrier and not defenseless. Very hard hit but not targeting.

They changed the rule this year. It's not only for defenseless players. As a ball carrier, if someone hits you with the crown of their helmet above the shoulders, it's targeting. Additionally, if someone leaves their feet in an upward trajectory and hits you above the shoulders, it's targeting.

The hit on Berry was targeting.

When Galileo or whatever hit Berry in the face mask with his helmet and knocked him out Verne and Gary spooged about the 12th man and playing hard, etc. When Galileo got hit on the punt return they lectured on player safety and cleaning things up. Derp?

That's a reviewable play this year. Why didn't Butch throw a huge fit and call time out to get it looked at. We might as well have. We basically took a knee at the end of the half with 2 remaining

With the time we had left on the clock and the 2 timeouts, I think we could've got in field goal range. I think they should've tried.

Yep, same last year when Tuttle got hurt... how much did you hear them talk about Chubb when he went down?

Well targeting a ball carrier is just hard nosed football. Targeting a defender on a punt return is dirty and has no place in football.

They said it was when he was down and that they changed what is considered targeting.

Anyone able to link a clip of that play?

That was a punt returner on a fair catch. Not a guy running back a kick. That's like calling targeting on a RB running the ball.

It looked like the hit where Berry fumbled was targeting as well. The idiot officials seemed to get caught up thinking "the home team's excited, let's not ruin it for them!"

He was not down, I think that guy was the first to make contact. Berry was upright and he hit him in the mouth with his helmet.

If you're running with the ball, then you're not considered a defenseless player, hence the no call. Sucks but seriously proud of this team they've played with so much heart the entire year. This loss has been the easiest for me to accept since I can remember
