ESPN says VOLS can sneek up on DAWGS

I'll ne honest here...

There is virtually no way that Tennessee beats Georgia this year. That article is the product of a long off-season and everyone looking for something to talk about. Tennessee will do well to beat everyone except for Florida, Georgia, and Alabama this year. That would be a successful year 2 under CJP and the new coaching staff. I don't want to be to big of a downer here because I am a huge UT fan, but I am also a realist and don't see a way that we upset UGA barring some serious losses to their team before that game and our guys playing the game of their life we will not win that game. Maybe in 2 years.

Its slow off season news , …..GO VOLS

I'd give Us a punchers chance at home and coming off a bye week. We're just not there yet. Unless they just lay an egg, they have more depth and talent, and are a more physical team. We don't have an edge at any position on the field. I still think we're a couple more elite recruiting classes from reclaiming the East.

A couple "more" elite recruiting classes? Which elite recruiting class is being added to?

Also, everyone keeps saying something about whether or not UT can "sneak" up on UGA. I believe the title of this thread says that they might "sneek" up on them. I believe sneek is a more dastardly version of sneak, ymmv.

UGA was ranked #1 when they played Auburn, and #3 when they played LSU. We were favored in both games.
Point being, the other two teams were at home and both were playing very well and neither game was considered an easy win by any stretch. Neither spread got past like 4 points. This is different than the days when a backup QB for UF rolls in and the Dawgs lose to a guy who threw 5 passes.

A game where we lose by less than 20 points would be nice. Winning...LOL. Give it another recruiting class or two. We just don't have the depth to go toe to toe four quarters with Bama or UGA.
No kidding. Of the 7 losses last year, 6 were blowouts.

Would it? Based on what? Aside from the bowl game last year, can you honestly say they were expected to win any game the last two years that they lost?

Why is that not included? He did coach didn’t he? If not I won’t count all the bone headed calls butch made as loses either.

Unlike you, I'm not a blind homer.

SECCG game sucked. I was there in a Bama section. Kirby’s got to find a way to win those games. Chaney tends to get away from his game plan when he gets a lead. I don’t count the bowl game. We had key seniors sitting it out, waiting for the draft and it was obvious that most of the rest had little interest in the game. Natural reaction.
I didn’t consider the bowl game. Only the beatings they took at the hands of Saban these past two years. When it’s considered a “Natural reaction”, for most of the team to have little interest in a game they are playing in, that’s a red flag when it comes to the culture of the program. When most of them team isn’t willing to play for pride or the thrill of victory compared to the agony of defeat, you probably have problems that are hard to fix. I’ll guarantee that.

In a perfect world players would hate losing so much that they wouldn’t want to end the year by losing the last two games they played.

Sounds like you accept that mentality as a given for your team.

I don't know that too many EXPECTED UGA to win AT Auburn in 2017 the way they were playing and going into Death Valley to play LSU is never a gimme.

Excuses.

They’re loaded and have no business losing to either. Someone dropped the ball and that falls directly on the HC

LOL. The ole passive aggressive Dawg Fan Syndrome. UGA never loses a game, the other team is never better. Something weird happens, UGA doesn't want to be there, blah, blah, blah..........

No. You lost. The other team (Bama and Texas) in both cases beat you. They were the better team that day. Let me show you:

"Tennessee lost to Alabama and Georgia last year. In both cases Tennessee lost the game to the better team. Both had more talent, were better coached, and played a superior game."

See? It's not that hard.

If the O-line comes to play, I think we can beat UGA

Not this year. Absent every conceivable break going our way, up to and including straight up flukes, we will not beat Georgia or Alabama. Florida? MAYBE, but it will take a flawless game on our part.

My hope is that we play tough, determined football against all three teams. Even if we lose by 10+, I want the other side to have aches and pains and know they were playing a squad that never let up, never gave up. That's all I can hope for this year, and frankly it would be a major shift from where we have been for the past decade.

You have every right to question Smart's game day coaching skills. Butch Jones had a winning record against him.
Kirby was 1-1 against Butch. Not a winning nor losing record. Jury is still out on Kirby. Overachieved his second year with a comeback win against OU in the playoffs. Met expectations his third season with a blow out loss to Ed O. We should learn more about him in the upcoming seasons. I’d say it’s about 50/50 whether he gets over the hump or becomes like Malzahn, always trying to recapture that early success.
