9-3 is very likely but this team could surprise us. The talent is there, if we get solid QB play and can stay healthy 10 wins is a distinct possibility.

8-4 is about right considering all the personnel changes on offense and offensive coaching staff.

Then there is the little defensive problem we had last year that we couldn't stop anyone who ran the ball. No real big help there other than a few key injuries hopefully getting healthy. We still will be in the 2nd half of the SEC defensively.

No SEC East next year but if this team wins 8 games before the bowls; we should take it and run.

Amazing that playing an extra SECw team every year has become one of the biggest impediments to winning the SECe. It's why I don't think CBJ has much chance of winning a division title as long as Saban is coaching at Alabama.

The margin of error is just too small for Butch to pull off a 7Ā—1 season which is the only way to ensure a division title without needing other teams to lose games.

until we expanded to 14 teams, we used to play 3 West teams every year? 5 east, 3 west (2 were permenant--AL and ARK, and rotating home/away with a third).

so it could be worse. we could play Bama, ARK and LSU this season under the old schedule.

and we've always had Bama as a permanent west rival.

i don't recall a bunch of hand wringing about the game when we won 8 straight, 9 of 10 against 'em?

and 6-2 would've won the division for us either of the last two years.

I wish there was some way to get Bama off of the schedule. Annual ass kickings are getting old.
nobody complained in the mid 90's thru early 2000's.

bama has been arguably at their best ever, while we've been at arguabley our worst ever.

has absolutely nothing to do with the schedule.

The whining about Alabama is getting old.

The two of you wanted to preserve the 3rd Saturday in October. You wanted them. You've got them.

It's like the Big 10 and PAC 10 being left out of the BCS due to the Rose Bowl and whining about it.

You don't have to play Bama every year. Call your AD. Petition the SEC. Move Missouri to the west and Auburn to the East.

But, you asked for this.

this post makes it sound like TN fans everywhere are clamoring for this, which is not the case.

i'm sure if you dug deep enough you'd find FL fans that are ready to do away with the FSU game.

doesn't mean it's a collective effort.

Yea, I'm not just "fine" with them being on the schedule every year, it just wouldn't be the same.

While I understand and agree with your basic point about not speaking for all fans....

The "it's not fair" attitude is getting tired.

Maybe 10 posters at the most would say they are tired of playing bama. I like our chances with 121. It's time to put a beat down on the bama clowns.

i think i've made that clear how i feel on the issue in my two posts on the matter.

that argument doesn't wash with me, nor does it with overwhelming vast majority of us as TN fans.

so just take it up with the individual, and leave out the collective "you" references.

no one wanted them removed from the schedule 20 years ago.

I believe, in my heart, that this is a 10 win season because of the offense. Don't let these guys know it though. They need to keep proving themselves.

According to FPI, we're slightly more likely to go 6-6 than 10-2

9-3 would probably be a solid season with schedule and roster attrition, which is why it won't happen. I'm looking at 7/8 wins right in the heart of what most experts are calling the pivot point for whether Jones gets sacked.

Nick has 7 or 8 more year's does anyone see us beating them in the next 2 or 3 years and he keeps getting better recruiting i guess we might beat them once why he is there i am 55 i don't think i will every see us beat them in my lifetime now the good news for you VOL FANS i am in bad health so maybe the wait won't be to long for the Fans.:thud:

The difference between 9-3 and 8-4 is significant. Going 8-4 with losses to UF, UGA, Bama and LSU means the Vols lose to all 3 top rivals and both teams from the SECw. Getting that UGA W at home is big-- it could decide the East.

Agreed. I really dont see them beating us at home. Especially with their Oline being depleted- it already was lackluster last year. We have some good defense coming back and hopefully Shoop gets some great play calls. Eason has played in some hostile environments but Neyland is another monster.

I have time to type a more complete thought now.

I believe strongly that 80%+ of all Vol fans want to keep the rivalry.

I also believe (and wouldn't be surprised if it was as many as 50%) of the fan base thinks it is completely unfair that Tennessee has to play Alabama. They accept it. Many of this group want to play Alabama because of the rivalry. But, they are tired of the "disadvantage" Tennessee is placed in being in this position.....even though no one can identify the season where it cost Tennessee the East.

It is to that group (whatever percentage it may be) that I was trying to address.

It is mainly out of the bitterness I have that Auburn belongs in the East, Missouri in the West. And the only reason it isn't that way is the third Saturday in October.

So, I do think there are several that want the rivalry, yet complain about the predicament Tennessee is placed in.

Which is where I was coming from with the "you asked for it and it's your fault you play Bama every year" point of view.

as long as you're aware that you're making this up as you go, i really don't care.

I honestly see 7-5

Given what we've seen the last four seasons, I think 7-5 is the most likely outcome as well. We barely pull off a win against GT, but lose to Florida in the swamp, take our yearly losses to Alabama and the other west team in LSU, and then lose close games at home to GA and USCe, one or both due to coaching errors.

I don't think I could stomach that

Yes. Jones has yet to even show a glimmer of getting his team to play over their head for even one game.

I doubt it happens this year with the many offensive changes we will see and a porous defense with little depth at any position.

while i won't say he's made it a habit, that's not exactly true. 2013 UGA and USCe are two that stick out in my mind as prime examples of teams that played over their heads.
