Amazing that playing an extra SECw team every year has become one of the biggest impediments to winning the SECe. It's why I don't think CBJ has much chance of winning a division title as long as Saban is coaching at Alabama.
The margin of error is just too small for Butch to pull off a 7Ā1 season which is the only way to ensure a division title without needing other teams to lose games.
I wish there was some way to get Bama off of the schedule. Annual ass kickings are getting old.
this post makes it sound like TN fans everywhere are clamoring for this, which is not the case. The whining about Alabama is getting old.
The two of you wanted to preserve the 3rd Saturday in October. You wanted them. You've got them.
It's like the Big 10 and PAC 10 being left out of the BCS due to the Rose Bowl and whining about it.
You don't have to play Bama every year. Call your AD. Petition the SEC. Move Missouri to the west and Auburn to the East.
But, you asked for this.

i'm sure if you dug deep enough you'd find FL fans that are ready to do away with the FSU game.
doesn't mean it's a collective effort.

i think i've made that clear how i feel on the issue in my two posts on the matter. While I understand and agree with your basic point about not speaking for all fans....
The "it's not fair" attitude is getting tired.

The difference between 9-3 and 8-4 is significant. Going 8-4 with losses to UF, UGA, Bama and LSU means the Vols lose to all 3 top rivals and both teams from the SECw. Getting that UGA W at home is big-- it could decide the East.

that argument doesn't wash with me, nor does it with overwhelming vast majority of us as TN fans.
so just take it up with the individual, and leave out the collective "you" references.
no one wanted them removed from the schedule 20 years ago.
as long as you're aware that you're making this up as you go, i really don't care. :thumbsup:I have time to type a more complete thought now.
I believe strongly that 80%+ of all Vol fans want to keep the rivalry.
I also believe (and wouldn't be surprised if it was as many as 50%) of the fan base thinks it is completely unfair that Tennessee has to play Alabama. They accept it. Many of this group want to play Alabama because of the rivalry. But, they are tired of the "disadvantage" Tennessee is placed in being in this position.....even though no one can identify the season where it cost Tennessee the East.
It is to that group (whatever percentage it may be) that I was trying to address.
It is mainly out of the bitterness I have that Auburn belongs in the East, Missouri in the West. And the only reason it isn't that way is the third Saturday in October.
So, I do think there are several that want the rivalry, yet complain about the predicament Tennessee is placed in.
Which is where I was coming from with the "you asked for it and it's your fault you play Bama every year" point of view.
I honestly see 7-5
Given what we've seen the last four seasons, I think 7-5 is the most likely outcome as well. We barely pull off a win against GT, but lose to Florida in the swamp, take our yearly losses to Alabama and the other west team in LSU, and then lose close games at home to GA and USCe, one or both due to coaching errors.

Yes. Jones has yet to even show a glimmer of getting his team to play over their head for even one game.
I doubt it happens this year with the many offensive changes we will see and a porous defense with little depth at any position.
