Martin is a good basketball coach, who I think would be a great coach, but his teams were behind the curve most of the year. Martin taught them what they needed to know, but he just did not motivate them to play consistently on a higher level. I like the man and wish him well, but I understand the fan frustration. Our hillbilly fans are another matter. Most are good folks, but too many of them belong in a maximum security prison. Even some of the well heeled are little better than snot brained criminals.

Dana O'Neil is a dumbass. Maybe she should've done some research before anointing Martin as the second coming of Wooden. He is leaving UT with the cupboard bare. Is he leaving it in better shape than when he arrived? That could be argued. He went to two NITs and barely got into the NCAA this year with a roster that most coaches would've had no problem getting into the dance. Couple that with the horrible SEC the last 2 years and him still barely making it once says it all.

I loved CCM and wanted him at UT, but this nonsense about unrealistic expectations, fan support, etc, is not supported by facts. While I supported him, most criticism of CCM was warranted. That blogger sure did omit some things, such as an NIT loss to Mercer. The petition was dumb and didnt rep most fans. Many sigs were duplicates. Further more, some people need to get a grip. UT got rep of a school that didnt care for bball, but those same people say they expect too much. So, a fanbase that isnt supportive, yet shows up to gamea more than most any other? Which is it? Then, fans were upset by mediocrity for the better part of 2 years, and expresa displeasure while STILL showing up. UT didnt give CCM an extension or a raise after his second year because he didnt earn it plain and simple. They didnt overpay this year because they still had doubts. If you want to accuse UT of not caring about bball, how can you accuse them of having too high of expectations? Some peopke signed a meaningless petition. Boo hoo. If you get paid big $ to lead a big program, get your big boy pants on.

Well I'm sure there's somebody out there with the thick skin a professional should have who actually likes our passionate fan base. It's part of it, even the classless midseason petition nonsense. As a professional you have to selectively ignore or embrace a wide variety of feedback from fans. If it really bothers a coach that much all he has to do to avoid that kind of thing altogether is to win. What we "deserve" is to win. Also, for the record, I wouldn't trade our fans for any others on the face of this Earth, not for any coach.

Agreed. The national media's lovefest with Cuonzo during our Sweet 16 run was annoying too. Particularly Jimmy Dykes calling out UT fans for being disappointed with Cuonzo's coaching.

Had the guy actually watched any of our games pre-March? We ranged from decent to absolutely terrible...and with one of the best rosters in the SEC.

This article is nothing but clickbait.

Want to talk about coach mistreatment? Some get confronted by drunken fans in public, some get for sale signs in their yards, some get uhaul trucks to their homes, some get harrassed. This one had to endure getting paid over a million bucks to coach a team that for most of his tenure, underformed. He had to hear some crazies cry for the former coach i. a petition. He then got an offer for 1.8 million.Cry me a river. Furthermore, he took the job, he was aware of what Pearl had done and how popular he is at UT.

Who on here doesn't also realize that the latest commitment was also a way for him to flip fans the bird on the way out. Anyone here think Martin didn't ask him to commit knowing he would follow him when he got the job. Really glad he's gone. Tired of all the Saint Martin bs we've been spoon fed.

I thought the blog write up was good and accurate. This is exactly what we deserve. Thanks to all the spoiled ignorant fans who started online petitions to have him fired during the season...this is just karma in your face. This is nothing unusual for UT. We have been a laughing stock of the nation since we forced Phillip Fulmer. out. Maybe all the belly aching fans will stop and think before airing their grievances for the entire universe to hear and see. I supported Martin from day one and am actually glad he left UT for himself and his family. Who would want to coach for fans like us who are undeserving and who do not appreciate anything! It's time to pull up your grown up pants TN fans.

Class??!? Integrity??!?? From what I have seen, he did everything in secret, and him even talking to Cal was a surprise to Hart...Kiffin anyone??!? And taking recruits with him to a new job...well that just smells like James Franklin.

I personally am happy CCM is gown. The program was on the way down under his leadership and quite frankly this is probably one of the main reasons for his departure. He new what the future held with the level of recruiting he was able to achieve. By moving to Cal he has at least three years with little pressure. At Tennessee the heat would be turned up next season and he new there was no way to avoid it except to move on. I said earlier this season that I would not follow or attend any men's basketball games until CCM was gown. I feel his departure is what is best for Tennessee. Now we need to hope Hart will make the right decision and get us a coach which has proven recruiting ability. Let the negotiation's begin

You reap what you sow , and this fan base has put a lot of bad seeds in the ground the last few years . I see nothing in that article that isn't true , unfortunately
