Seems like everyone is just ignoring the fact that his team was unmitigated disaster for most of the season. They're just more concerned about painting us as the bad guys and him as the good guy

We do deserve better...That much is correct...They try to spin it like Martin left us high and dry when it is us who left him high and dry a looong time ago....Believe me, we are the winners in this decision.

depends on who they hire.

right now, tennessee has no coach and holes all over the roster.

This article is referring to the bbb petition. IMO the BBB petition is what motivated the players to push to the sweet sixteen not CCM! If this team played like they did during the tournament the whole season, there would not be a BBB petition! Bruce Pearl wouldn't have been hired when he was and for the money that Auburn spent on him! Thanks true VFL

He was one loss away from another NIT appearance and from being fired. Now, we are supposed to be distraught because we are getting paid $1.3 Million by someone to take him off our hands.

Thank you.

I can't believe so many seem to be accepting this article, much less praising it. It's completely ridiculous through the whole thing.

If offered Ben Howland would knock the door down getting here...Marshall I'm not too sure of but it never hurts to try.

There is wayyyy too much pressure on the AD to make a good hire...The boosters are impatient and want a winning coach now....No so called assistants with promise...with all the money UT is going to be making off the SEC network they can afford to open up that pocketbook and hire a quality coach.

it's a big part of it.

he was treated like trash by the school and the fan base.

dave hart told him one thing publicly then offered him a nickel for a raise.

i'm in the minority here, but cuonzo has handled this with nothing but class. lord knows, if he were to say what he was feeling what stuff might get said.

I'm sure it's been posted here but it was reported after the vandy loss the boosters pulled their planes and wouldn't let martin use them to recruit.

You know, he could go coach basketball at the CYO/Rec level then he wouldn't have all those 'mean' fans to deal with and no pressure at all... Course, he wouldn't have become a rich man as a result either...

look, we're the school that invented fireronzook.com.

i understand.

my point is, and jordan mcrae basically said it, you treat someone like trash and you can't expect them to be happy about it.

some of y'all have the nerve to act surprised he's taking a recruit with him.

He was nothing but a middle of the road coach for 2.75 years and turned in on in the last 10 games.

This is nothing but a sales rep that didn't hit his quota for 2 months and was on the hot seat to be fired then finally made hit his numbers and exceeded it in the last week. It earned him another quota period. Nothing to proclaim him the next Jesus Christ, just finally did what he was hired to do. No more.

He probably would have been fired within two years at TN, he now will get at least four years at Cal. By my math he bought himself two extra years.

Article is stupid. I guess fans should be happy with 7-7 in SEC and loses to Vandy and Texas A&M. Heck after the Vandy loss we should have immediately given him a raise. Up to the end of this year, should he have been paid like a top 30 coach in the US or around top 70ish?

He ended the year well, and would have gotten a 500k reward. That is fine.

The petition thing was way over the top, but why should we have been embracing him and begging him to stay after that Vandy loss.

I think year 1 and 2 the fans still showed up to the games in great numbers. I think we were number 2 in attendance in SEC. I guess we really hated him.

Even on VN which is normally full of hate, I don't remember too many people calling for his head last year. It wasn't until this year when we were started losing to bad teams when everyone got up in arms.

Also, the people supporting him at the end were the same that stuck with him all year.

Jordys entitled to his opinion and I'm not surprised he sided with his coach but let's face it to say he was treated poorly or mistreated is an overstatement IMO...

He's a college basketball coach at a high profile program who encountered a high level of scrutiny---it's not unusual.

Again it's all about perspective... I think he's gonna have some of the same issues at Cal unless he wins relatively quickly due to the recent success Mike Montgomery had in getting the Golden Bears to the tourney in four of the last six years...

For the record, I'm not surprised or angry he took a recruit with him... He recruited the kid, he should be able to coach him and the kid should have the opportunity to play for him.
