Ultimate CFB bowl betting guide: How to bet every game

Northwestern Wildcats vs. Tennessee Volunteers (-9)
Tampa | Raymond James Stadium
Jan. 1, noon on ESPN2

Fallica: Usually I hate adages like "x plays away from ..." a certain record, but in Tennessee's case it completely rings true. The Vols had CFP teams Alabama and Oklahoma on the ropes and had SEC East winner Florida beaten in Gainesville. The Vols were fourth in ESPN's Game Control metric; they just couldn't finish against the nation's elite. Now the Vols finish with Northwestern, which is 100th nationally in offensive efficiency and 54th in FPI. On paper, everything points to Tennessee. I think the Vols end the season for the second year in a row with a big win over the Big Ten, and win nine games for the first time since 2007.

ATS pick: Tennessee
Score: Tennessee 31, Northwestern 14

Need to continue our trend of good first quarters. NW SHOULDN'T be able to recover if they get behind by two scores early. The 294 rush yards that Iowa put up on them might be hard to reach but Tennessee is capable of at least approaching two fitty on the ground. Dobbs needs at least 65 yards rushing imo.

This seems like a popular sentiment leading up to this game. I keep seeing it. I hope the team isn't hearing it as much as I am, given their history of holding on to 2 score leads.

Listen here is the formula to get the W over these nobody's...... POUND the rock. They cant handle the 3 headed monster of Hurd, AK, Dobbs. We could not throw a single pass on them and still hang 35. Just run it down their throats and expose another Big 10 nobody!

The trend hasn't been good 1st qtrs. They have been amazingly good 1st Qtrs...with the exception of Bama and UGA.

Forget hitting them hard in the first and second qtrs....Smash them in the mouth all 4 qtrs, and make a statement going into next season!!!

I never like hearing everyone say how bad someone is going to beat the other. It often works the other way....ie Vols vs Miami in 1985; many other examples

Of course they are going to come out and have 400 yards passing on us. Just because we are Tennessee and we are cursed.

No doubt in my mind that Hurd goes off in this game with at least 100 on the ground

I think we are going to win, Butch has an extra week of practice, so it is like a off week for them (granted Christmas break and exams etc...) SO they SHOULD beat them with disciplined and great play calling (the first 15-20 scripted play).

BUT........ dont underestimate this team they are ranked in the top 15 and bowl games is all about who is motivated the most. NW is an underdog and play with a chip on their shoulder and a we don't get any respect thing. UT does that very well being BIG underdogs--ALABAMA GAME-- so just be careful about predicting 31-7 wins or something like that. Think it will be closer than the experts think.

ESPN "experts" are usually wrong on most things when it comes to predicting but lets hope they are right this time.
