I don’t want a head coaching change. I don’t even know if staff changes are needed.

Where I’m at after the whole 5-year tenure of wins, losses and roster management is that I no longer have confidence that this head coach will elevate the program any farther than what we’ve already seen. Whether that’s good enough is not my decision to make. I’m just not expecting anything more. And I hope to be proven wrong.
Did you also lose confidence in Johnny Majors after year 5?

I was pretty young then so I don't remember. I remember losing confidence in Dooley, Butch and Pruitt all at different points. Can't tell you which season or event caused it. I do remember that it was pretty steady downhill from there and each were eventually fired. I'm still hopeful on Heupel but not confident.

I think you should be. Remember his worst seasons were on par with some of their best. And also remember every coach by year 5 with the Vols that you mentioned had multiple losing seasons. Heupel has had zero.

Fanatic doesn’t also include an excuse for a lack of logical analysis. Fanatics can and should also be the most informed and aware. Clearly by so many posts I’ve read the past few days that natural correlation couldn’t be further from the truth.
This isn’t true at all, fans are usually completely irrational

I’m as disappointed as anyone about the Oklahoma game and us having 3 losses this season.

I don’t think CJH has had his best year as a HC. In game decisions and clock management have been an issue this year. I think that’s fair.

However, if you are ready to move on from CJH right now you are beyond ignorant. Did you forget the last 15 years? They really sucked before CJH. Careful what you wish for.

Middle of the road program. It's where we've been since we moved on from big Phil.
Phil had it there before he left. Let’s not fool ourselves. He had two five win seasons in his last four years.

Heuple didn’t miss the kick against Georgia he didn’t commit intentional grounding or throw the interception returned 99yards for TD against Alabama he didn’t throw 2 INTs and let a blitzing LB unabated to QB and fumble against Oklahoma. But I do think his play calling and clock management has had a lot to be desired. Hopefully CJH realizes his issues and that of other coaches and works to change those in off season. He always talks about growth of players well he and his staff need some of that too maybe he sees the need for some staff changes. If this doesn’t happen next season then Danny Dimes needs to have a serious conversation up to possibly making a change himself. Heuple is still young and in the early stages of his coaching career. Let’s hope he addresses what needs to be and gets Vols into the playoffs and elite conversations every year.
He didnt miss the kick against Georgia, but he iced his own kicker. I like Heup, but it’s Year 5 and we’re seeing the same crap. We can definitely agree on staff changes, start by bringing in Pittman for the OL.

I know plenty of fans who are very rational. We should never talk in absolutes. I know plenty of fans in my circle that love the Vols, look at things objectively without bias, and are just as much of a fan as any “fanatic” spouting nonsense. Being an extreme fan is no excuse for a lack of knowledge and understanding esp when it comes from a situational perspective (not discussing the analytical side).

Ok, now look at the last six seasons. Three 10 wins and a 9 win season.
I'm not carrying water for Fulmer as I never cared for him or the way he became the HC.
But we've been mediocre since his tenure, especially in conference games.

Crazy that Heupel has the 1st, 2nd and 4th (tie) best seasons in the past 20 years.

And his only other complete season…his first after following Pruitt…was in the Top Half. Even with the disaster he inherited.

This is not one of his better teams. It happens.

Mediocre in-conference to me is 5-3 or 4-4. Below that is bad.

Fulmer and Heupel have been the only coaches in the last 30+ years to do better.

In the last 20 years, we’ve had:
> 0 seasons of 7-1 or better.
> 3 seasons of 6-2
> 3 seasons of 5-3
> 4 seasons of 4-4
> 10 LOSING SEASONS, which boggles the mind.

Man, half our seasons over the last 20 years were losing seasons in the SEC. I think you just triggered my BVSPTSD.

Still hard to believe we only had 1 winning season between 2008 - 2013. I believe that stretch took a big toll on my passion level for the game

A lot of things took a toll on mine, but I lasted until years after 2013. At that time I was still drinking orange kool-aid. These days I still love the Vols, but after the weekend I'm normally cool and I still do other stuff on Saturdays instead of whining all day. However now I'm more of a realist or a nega to those who want everyone to lick orange kool-aid off the floor.

the biggest issue of the last 20 years is that we (the fans and the university) waited until the head coach completely drove the bus into the ditch and set it on fire BEFORE we fired them and made the job of the next coach even harder. meanwhile contending football schools with champion pedigrees have no problem cutting bait at the first sign of trouble and they don't have to wait half a decade for the program to be "fixed" whatever the hell that means.

to get better and win more you have to upgrade your head coach BEFORE they run it into the ground. BEEEEEEFOOOOOORE.
