Yea I'm not going to dinner because I don't think I would be able to eat much or talk much for that matter- I'm not great at hiding things.

But I'm going to take her to the park we went to on our first date and put some rose pedals and stuff like that.

I love the park, take her on a picnic.

i got boondoggled in to it......we were in Pittsburgh, and we went shopping......i wasn't aware of where we were shopping........that was one of the worst days of my life.......and it ended as badly as you can probably imagine.

and the worst part was.......i was in frickin' pittsburgh at my future in laws house.......it wasn't like i could just leave and remove myself from the situation.......twas a bad, bad day.

That sounds like every guy's worst nightmare right there. Amazing you survived!

We've been dating for almost 2 years and I've been planning on how to do this for about a year and 8 months so I've given this a lot of thought.

But no pressure or anything.... right?

I did mine at the church we were going to get married in. She had no clue!

Good times!

Tell her to pick it out. Then pay for it. Too easy. Skimp on the wedding. it's basically a dinner nobody wants to go to, and they are only going because they can get drunk for free.

ahhh.....i don't know about that

do you mean skimp on the reception food??? if so...then i see your point...the majority of people will forgive so/so food for good booze

but...a wedding is a wedding...the reception is another matter.

Go straight to the heart with LeRoys jewelers. No real need for a diamond. Just get her a nice necklace to put your class ring on.

If you have a jeweler connection (did you say cousin?), I'd make every effort to put that to use. The markup on diamonds (especially high-quality) is ASTRONOMICAL. I used a long-time family friend when shopping and saved about 40-50%. Certification is a way of "guaranteeing" your stone and could be valuable if you were to ever trade-up or sell.

As for the wedding/reception talk. . . .unless you're made of money, I think there is a lot of sense in the points made above. Have a modest wedding and reception, give people a chance to wish you well, then blow the big bucks on a real nice honeymoon that you'll never forget! (Think Hawaii. . . .)

For some reason I think I better go with the ring for my own health.

Good advice!! Yea I could care less if everyone eats good food at my reception. All I want is a good band and my friends will make sure we have a good time. All I care about is having fun. I want it to be nice like anyone but we aren't breaking the bank just so people are impressed with good food.
