Elite Dangerous

thinking about getting this game. looks like it will scratch a lot of the itches that No Mans Sky gave me. Do I need to get the DLCs to be able to play? game is 30 bucks then the season pass for Horizon is another 30 and that is a little steep for a game I am leery about.

I'd definitely get the full package. I'm pretty sure there was a bundle for less than $60

What are you using? Right now I am using a Diamondback Explorer that gets a 31-32 ltyr jump without any engineering done to it. That's pretty good for a smaller, cheaper ship. I haven't done any engineering yet, but it is my plan to do so while I gain rep with the Imperials or Federals.

I haven't logged on to check lately but it was an Asp Explorer with high 30s jump I think. I made the trip in less than 2 weeks and that was a mistake on my part.

BC, who goes to a store to buy games anymore?

and 04, thanks for the break down.

I would be playing on my PC.

No prob. I don't know how often the game goes on sale, but I bought mine on sale for $20, I think. I can ask my buddy later and see if he knows if the game regularly goes on sale. Also, as I mentioned in a previous post, my bud and I firmly believe they will be bringing hostile aliens into the game in one of the next couple updates. That will give the game one more dimension.

Picked this up yesterday and already having a blast with it. I'm sure at some point it will get somewhat repetitive, but I'm down with games that make you grind. Still in training as I realize I need to work on just simply taking off and not wrecking trying to simply leave the airlock lol. The graphics on the PS4 Pro are just amazing, could only imagine how good they are on a good PC rig.

I play it on my PC rig with a GTX 1070 FTW card. You are where literally everyone is at the start: running into/ramming things, acting like a drunk behind the controls because there are so many, etc. But you get used to it after a few days. I definitely did lol. Also, last night I finally discovered the frame rate button. I was constantly getting only 24 fps. I knew I could go higher. After finding that button I now easily get 60 fps (highest level for the game). Everything just looks much nicer now haha!

And you are correct that this game is a pretty grind-y game. I just finished a mission that awarded my 201 million credits (the highest in the game) and yet I just have a maxed out Python with that. Not a bad ship by any means, but the next step is definitely obtaining one of the top 4 in the game. My buddy has the Imperial Cutter so my aim is the Federal Corvette. Gonna be a long time before I get that.

On the Pro there are two settings (Quality and Performance). Still jumping between the two to decide which I prefer. On Performance it runs at 60FPS but terrain textures aren't as great. The opposite is for Quality setting. I have read they should have a 4K/HDR patch around the time 2.4 releases or the new Xbox comes out.

Also coming with version 2.4 is the Thargoids. That's gonna be fun because our current weapons are no match for them. Some believe that the mission that had us go scan ancient alien ruins will allow us a new technology to battle the Thargoids. Gonna get purty interesting with 2.4.

Put some time into this game yesterday and completed some missions that netted me over 200k. I sat down just to run a mission or two and before I knew it, it was 2 in the morning lol

Sounds about right, lol. You should also start thinking about which faction to start gaining reputation with. It takes a while to grind and get the reputations up to where you get the factions good stuff.

Currently at Post Commander rank in the Federation. Gunning for that Corvette. Gonna be a beast....and expensive. ~$550 mil to fully buy and outfit.

So, anyone play this on PC? They had the commander`s pack for $23, so I grabbed it. I had a sci fi flight SIM itch, and this scratches it so far. I just do single player currently, but am curious about the multiplayer aspects, especially wings and the other " guild" type groups

I just fired up again for the first time in 8 months. About 10,000 light years from Sag A. I doubt I’ll ever afford one of those lol

I’m on Xbox and mostly play alone since I focus on exploration, but I had some fun early on with some friends hunting bounties.

A buddy of mine and I will usually play fairly regularly (on PC). We kinda had to take a break from it for a few because there were other games we were desiring to play. However, if you have any questions just post them here and we will gladly help you out. The game can be a little daunting at first, but it is really fun.

My buddy and I haven't really played it in about 1.5 months. We have been playing some other games as to give Elite a little bit of a break. However, before we stopped playing we did find a place to get rich real quickly. I got past $2 bil after about 2 weeks of grinding. The first week and a half you're getting rep up with local factions, but after that you run passenger missions to an outpost that is 45 min from the star that you warp out at. I was getting about $40-50 mil per run.

Hopefully this allows my buddy and I to get a frigate once they are introduced into the game.

Upgraded to an eagle and started going to resource extraction sites and getting bounties. Up to around 300k credits now. Saving up to get a Vulture, which I hear is a big upgrade for combat. After that it will be the Python and Anaconda.

That sounds like a lucrative plan. Are the passengers still there or was it a temporary mission? Where were you doing this?

Pythons are amazing. You won't regret having one of them. Vultures are good and quick lower mid-tier ships. I'd jump to the Python as quick as possible, though. I did and absolutely loved it.

I don't know if it is still paying out the same, but if so then I would definitely think about doing it. I did it about 2 months ago. Here is the video that tells you everything you need to know. Also, I was off by a lot with how much I was making per trip filled with passengers. I remember making 200-250 mil credits per trip using this method. It's not a one-time thing as I did it multiple times to get myself above 2 bil credits.

Found the Allen Hub passenger missions. Ran 1 mission and already got a 2 million credit mission for the 12ly trip. Now to figure out what to do for 45 minutes of super cruise, where I can still make it back in time to drop out at the right place.

My buddy last night told me they nerfed the Smeaton Orbital passenger missions. No more 200+ mil credits per run ☹️

Correct, but there are still occasionally 3-4 million dollar passenger missions i can take and sometimes make up to 10 million in a run. I went from 20-40 million in an hour with Smeaton runs (I only had a dolphin when i started doing the runs, and I didn't do the board hopping thing to fill up the ship) to now 3-4 million average. Now that I am allied in Upsilon Aquarii, I can pull around a decent amount (2-3 million+ in about an hour) just going in circles in the surrounding systems, loading up on missions for a port, getting missions for another port, as well as the original port, then going to the next port and getting missions for the first port, as well as the second.

The passenger missions did allow me to amass a bit of a fleet. I now have a Sidewinder, Eagle, Dolphin, Viper Mk.III, Vulture, Asp Explorer, Diamondback Explorer, Python, and Anaconda. I actually got the Anaconda the same day they killed off the Smeaton Hub runs, so i havent been able to outfit it much. I think the Vulture and Viper are my favorites. I have dual Rail Guns on the Viper, so it can be fun to take down the smaller ships quickly (and even the bigger with some help) in the RES. The Vulture is even better, but i am still playing with weapons (was beam + muticannon, now pulse + multicannon).
I stick to Private Group or solo play, but once i get better at combat i may go into Open Play more. I do not have anything engineered yet, but am working on that now that Passenger missions aren't as lucrative.

Nice. If I were you I would start beasting up that Anaconda you have with engineering ASAP. The next update is in beta testing and early reports is that engineering is taking a hit (was expected) and you can no longer get god roles. That is what I am trying to do with my Corvette right now. It is mostly done, but I have a few more things I would like to engineer before the update finishes beta testing and they role it out.

The beta for the next update started Thursday. I downloaded it, but the gf is in town this weekend so I won't be able to play it until Sunday night at the earliest. Those that play on the PC should download it and check it out. The new Chieftain looks really cool.
