Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Bump.

Old bump I know, but wow...

When it first came out I played it as a nord and put so many hours into it. Maxed out everything and was level 81. Relied on destruction and heavy armors/swords. Just got the urge to play it again for some reason. Started yesterday as a female wood elf to experience a different gender and race. Expected to explore and goof off awhile. End up playing it all over again and getting lost in it. So many options I haven't even done the same things I did the first time other than main story. This time focusing on archery and stealth.

Archery and stealth is a full class to play. But super overpowered. You'll be unstoppable after level 20

you can do the same thing with just your fists, by level 20 you're you're taking out blood dragons with nothing but melee attacks

I just borrowed the game from a friend. I'm a Redguard. Level 14. I use one-handed weapons and some archery. I suck at the game. It's fun.

I think I have around 130 hours into Skyrim now. Level 43. Have yet to finish the main questline, but I think I just have the vampire questline and the Empire/Stormcloak questline to finish, too. I just began the vampire questline, I think. I just finished the Dark Brotherhood questline. I have done the Thieves Guild, Mages Guild, Companions, Bard's Guild, and I'm Thane of Whiterun, Solitude, Markarth, Morthal, Dawnstar, Falkreath, and Riften - I think. I don't own homes in all of them, though.

I have so many more sidequests to do. So many dungeons unexplored. This game is a lot to take in. I love it.

Did anyone not kill Parthurnaax? I'm at the point in the main quest that I've trapped the dragon and have been commanded by th Blades to kill Parthurnaax, but I talked to him and says I can trust him. I kind of don't want to kill him.

I never killed him, just doesn't sit right with me.

If you kill Parthurnaax, the Greybeards no longer help you find words of power.

If you don't kill him, the Blades shun you and you can't recruit new members and go on dragon-killing missions.

The second is the better option, though. Because, if you've wandered about aimlessly killing dragons and acquiring the words of power that they were always near, you will end up with a bunch of unfinished missions since the Blades' missions will always involve dragons that you've already killed and they will not reappear. That has been my experience.

Bought this for 15 bucks I think it was on Black Friday and man, fun game. Massive map and you can just wander around forever finding places and stealing crap. Sweet game.

Anyone still play this game?

What are you guys talking about?

I think I'm up to like level 27 and Dragons can still be a pain.

I must be doing it wrong. There is so much to this game, it's crazy.

You have to get the Pugilist's gloves, learn the "fortify unarmed" enchantment and apply it to heavy armor gauntlets.

Skyrim:Gloves of the Pugilist - UESPWiki

You then wear heavy armor and improve the skill, making sure to select the part of the skill tree that lets you do melee damage equal to that of your gauntlets' armor rating.

You'll be melee killing everything.

What is the extra downloadable content. Is it anything special?

On it's face, Hearthfire seems kind of lame, but it's worth having simply to have a place that's bigger than any property you can acquire in the cities to put your stuff. Your homes can also be equipped with herb gardens, alchemy labs and blacksmith forges. Trophy rooms are also a nice touch.

I don't have Dragonborn, but have heard good things about it.

I guess mine came with 3 things.

Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn—which were repackaged into The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition, which released on June 4, 2013.

It won't matter if I just download it with a started game? I'm at Level 27.

Any tips? Someone already kind of spoiled the ending for me. They said they were imperial and there is only one true king or something and they killed a king or a king that's they don't consider a real king. Not sure. But yeah, with all of the alchemy, blacksmithing and enchanting. All of those stones. There's a lot to take in for this game if you've never played it. I'm not even sure I know how to enchant weapons or whatever. Or I'm guessing you could make necklaces, or rings too rather than just finding them? And oh yeah, on top having to pick between the imperials or empire or whatever they're called and the rebels... I haven't done anything as far as taking sides. And I know there's a bunch of guilds you can join. You can also be a vampire or wolf? I just don't know...

I wish I knew more about the game and what I'm doing but there's just so much to the game. I'm basically just going for one handed weapon with a shield, even though I rarely hold my shield up. I've never once used magic or spells. But yeah, any tips would be appreciated because there is so much and it actually requires some knowledge to do different tasks in the game. Obviously I could go read about it onlinw but I'm curious as to what you think of empire/imperials? vs. the rebels and what you think of the guilds. Or if I should be using magic or enchanting weapons. Or using those dragonborn call things. I never use that either. How have you played your character?

I still get it out and play it every now and then. I've got no telling how many hours into it and I have so much out there I still haven't done.

I forgot about Dawnguard. I had a lot of fun with it, but I didn't really like playing as a vampire. It's a lot more fun killing them with crossbows that you can make ridiculously powerful.

The empire vs. the rebellion storyline was somewhat weak and the battle sequences got repetitive and boring. It doesn't alter the main storyline in any meaningful way, so I just remained neutral on the matter.

In the end, it's up to you on how you play it. You can try to avoid using magic and alchemy, but since you're already a magical being who can perform magic, you may as well embrace that aspect of your character.

You guys are making me want to dust off the ol' 360 and start a punch cat character.

One of the best games ever made!

This game is a must to own if you have a powerful PC and feel a little adventurous about tweaking it with a program like Mod Organizer. The available mods over at the NEXUS, along with using the S.T.E.P. Skyrim Guide Overhaul, has kept this game up-to-date visually and fresh in gameplay. No other games come close to Bethesda's in the modding community, and that's why Skyrim is still one of the best games that exists because of it.

I wish they would remake Morrowind. Loved that game.

Morrowind is my favorite game of all time and I definitely agree with you. However, Bethesda Studios never remakes their flagship games. They just move on to the next project in the series. What they do fortunately, however, is release the construction sets and software they used to build the original cores and expansions of these games to the fans. They have done this since Morrowind. So that's where modding community comes into play. And, wouldn't you know it, there is an enormous fan project being done right now to remake Morrowind with an overhauled Skyrim engine. Everything from voice acting to high resolution renderings. Unfortunately, yes, you've got to have a gaming PC. This isn't for consoles. But still, it's coming, and it looks pretty awesome. It's called SKYWIND and it's currently in Alpha stage. It's so ambitious that even Bethesda acknowledges it. Of course, you'll have to install the original PC versions of the games, including all expansions, to run the Skywind remake when it is released. You can get these through Steam for pretty cheap these days. The project is hoped to be completed by the end of this year. Something amazing to carry us Elder Scrolls fans over until TES VI; well, at least for me, that ZeniMax Elder Scrolls Online game just isn't cutting it.

Check out these development videos. I'm pretty excited about it:

I still play Morrowind sometimes - with the right mods it looks decent. The combat is still awful, but that's to be expected I suppose. But in terms of world design, lore, quests - the perfect RPG.

I spent a lot of time on Skyrim, then one day it just felt repetitive. I probably got bogged down doing every side quest that came along.

Haven't picked it up since.

Saw some Vamps, they're useless. And I got the uncursed ring to be a werewolf for helping the wolf dude. But I also killed him and got his armor too.

Can you build houses on the system version? I can build locks and buy glass now with dlc.

Yeah, you can build 3 houses. YOu just have to get the deed from the Jarl or whatever the term was. It's in the 3 regions you cant buy hoses. FAlkreath, Dawnstar(?) and one of the others in the cold north (Morthal)? I'm fuzzy on the names now, sorry.

Each location has a unique area. An aviary to raise bees on one, a pond you can stock with fish on an other and....blank on that too. Herb garden maybe?

I just watched a video of someone building a basic small house and it looks complicated. It looked like he chose from a house layout the game offered and then had to make all of the stuff for it. Is that right or can you build as many rooms as you want and any size you want? Building houses on here looked nothing like building houses on Sims for example.

And did I see something about if you get to level 100 you can drop back to level 15 or something so you can add more perks/points?

I hate asking everyone so many questions but I'm still pretty clueless to the game. I'm using plated steel armor and don't even know how many more/better levels of armor/weapons there are. Guessing a lot seeing as I'm only on like level 29 I think it is. Maybe 28 or 30.

Armor gets alot better. Dragon bone/scale is the best. Learn to exploit alchemy/enchanting/smithing to make the baddest armors.

You first build a small house, then add on to it. The small house eventually becomes the entry way to your larger manor.
There is a small level of customization, but you pick from a predefined list of options on each house. Like you can build a green house OR an armory OR a kitchen on one house, but not all 3. Building isnt necessarily complicated, but it is time consuming. You have to make nails and fittings from iron, so you have to have a crap load of iron. You have to have a lot of lumber, so you have to buy that from the saw mills scattered about the region. Need a lot of stone and clay, which you have to mine. fortunately they are nice enough to have a place for those right out the front door on all 3 houses.

Yes, with the expansion you can get a skill to level 100 then reset it to 15. all the perks you used in that skill go to your general pool and you can build it up again. When you are a reallly high level this is kind of a pain tho. having to level a skill all the way back up again isnt really worth the perks.
