Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Guess you missed this post:

LOL, I didn't miss it but I actually find myself generally avoiding MMO type games or over-the-top online communities. I like single player experiences and smooth co-op experiences. All I'd honestly care about the multiplayer component for is to either system link with someone like my brother and be exploring Tamriel with two different characters at the same time or a small online community. I don't really care about hundreds of online characters, and you should definitely not splitscreen a game like this.

one thing that sort of bothers me with Skyrim is that there never seem to be any consequences when you complete a quest line.

Side with either the Imperials or the Stormcloaks and after the war all you get are dirty looks and snide comments from the losing side.

Assassinate the emperor and then walk around Solitude like you own the place.

Complete the Mage college questline, be appointed Archmage, inadvertently kill a fellow mage during a dragon attack and you're forced to pay a penalty in order to "rejoin" the college.

It's all part of the handholding in games these days. Any major form of consequence in Elder Scrolls died with Morrowind.

This game is on sale for $39.99 at Target until Saturday for anyone who doesn't have it and lurks the thread.

They announced the first DLC yesterday called Dawnguard.. didn't give out any info yet. Supposed to be at E3

Hell yeah - just announced Elder Scrolls Online release in 2013.. which means the next RPG could be on the back burner for awhile - see KOTOR III.

They said the MMO was being developed by Zenimax online studios and not Bethesda which is a good.thing because I want Fallout 4

my kid is playing the PC version, he's running around with lightsabers and dragonbone/scale weapons thanks to creative mods available for download.

The disgraceful part is when you're in an offline, single-player RPG, you are always working on some story element, or at the very least a side quest. When you do an MMO, 95% of your time is spent "grinding," which is one of the ultimate wastes of time ever devised by man.

Yet, even though my rational brain realizes this, I did get stuck in EverQuest for a good 3 or 4 months back in high school. Then, in FFXI for another month.

Never again.
