Eating some crow - JG looked impressive

I'm convinced between this year and last, he can't actually run.

In regards to the thread, I'm no where near as impressed with JG as others seem to be. Most of our passes seemed to be within 10 yards of the LoS and we were playing a god awful defense and put up all of 14 points. He was OK I guess, but he did absolutely nothing special.

We faced the worst P5 defense we're gonna play all year and this was the best JG and our offense could do.

You KNOW NOTHING.

Drinking and posting is common here but 10:26am is a little early to be this drunk/stupid.

And when things clicked yesterday, you saw a running game. Jordan has to get the dancing habit out of his system, but when he did that one cut and go? Very productive. And I liked the short glimpse we got of Banks...that’s some mean waiting to happen. Madre London will deliver too if that injury wasn’t too serious. All that to say that the running game will help JG be more effective and when we actually start looking down the field?
agreed. i'm excited about him.

Louisville looked better at pass rush against Alabama than we did against WV. Not just pass rush but their whole d. I don't get it. Really thought we had more talent than that.

as for JG, the only 2 criticisms i have from yesterday is that he tended to stare down receivers, and he still has some trouble early on recognizing some pre snap reads.

physically, i think he played very well. delivered the ball, was very accurate, and it had some zip....on the mental side, i think i was impressed by the way he never really got rattled by what else was going on around him. i'm sure he was frustrated at times, but i didn't get the impression that he let one bad play, cause another bad play.

i think he's grown up a bit....long story short, i didn't see anything yesterday that led me to believe there's NOT something to continue to work with there. good outing by the QB overall.

He wants to be a pure QB and not a runner. That might be what led to his tendency to hold the ball too long last year.

Pruitt should prefer that the QB wants to win the game. The fact that Pruitt does not care about this is disturbing.

He IS a "pure QB" period. Maybe by the time he's a 5th year senior 1/2 our fanbase will have that sorted out. This dual threat label is 80% the fault of recruiting services labeling him that with ZERO warrant. His HS running stats weren't even up to pedestrian levels. He's a passer who can run fast in a straight line. The other 20% is honestly based on perception due to the color of his skin.

I would say people will figure this out eventually, but they won't. Afterall it's still Dormandy and Ethan Wolfe after 1/2 a decade.

We don't and you can thank Lyle Jones for that.

Someday we will have a competitive QB who reads the D and changes out of formations. JG not capable of this and IMHO never will. If we are rebuilding start Shrout and let him grow. How JG got his ranking out of high school baffles me. Never been impressed with his football IQ. Could sit him on the bench and let the cameras show him pouting on the sidelines.

I've been critical of JG in the past and really didn't think he was going to cut it as a starting QB and now believe I was totally wrong. He looked like a completely different player last night and I was really impressed. I think we finally have someone that can develop our players at that position. He didn't have a lot of time to throw last night, yet managed to complete 76% of his passes. I really like what I saw and hope he continues to get better throughout the season!

He only threw for 172 yards.

Hold the phones guys, we have a player that needs development and isnt NFL ready straight out of high school. The sky is falling.

Going strictly on what I saw yesterday and not bringing in stats from last year there’s no way that WV defense was garbage. The “wv defense is garbage” crowd clearly doesn’t know anything about football. I thought JG did a good job yesterday. It’s funny how people want to keep moving the needle with jg, he had a good game and all of a sudden he needs to call his own plays and audible at the line of scrimmage. Just about every college teams call their plays the same way Tennessee does and unless you Peyton Manning or Andrew luck, they don’t have the freedom to audible. Locke for mizzou might be the only qb in the sec that has the freedom to audible. Can anyone name another qb in the sec?

Gonna be a loooooong season if he can't learn to avoid the hits. He will get hurt again if plays the same way versus SEC opponents.

There's a huge difference with better playcalling.

Our coaches constantly put Dormady and JG in bad situations last season. They never played to their strengths. Add in a swiss-cheese O-line and few options at WR and any QB would've looked awful last year.

Going to take some time before we know how good our staff is, but it's already clear to me that Helton is a much better playcaller than anyone from the Butch Jones era.

JG's mechanics suffered under Butch. He's back to throwing the ball with authority and confidence and looking like the guy we recruited.
