It’s crazy that East TN is about to get drenched in a system working its way up from the SW. Where is this moisture when it’s below 32?...

The GFS was showing a good looking snow for the Jan. 16 time in 2 straight runs. The 12z came out, and poof, it’s gone.

Cold weather will return by the end of January.

As for the storms Saturday, Yes! I expect middle to lower ETN to upgraded to a enhanced risk tomorrow.

My thoughts on tomorrow:

There's no question that the wind shear will be quite impressive with this system. I do think we'll see some severe weather tomorrow, but there are 2 questions that we'll need to find out to see how bad it will be:

1. How much instability will be present? Right now, it's looking about as good as it would be here in winter, which means if it was spring, it would be considered weak. If we see instability higher than forecasted, then the threat could increase.

2. Is the strong wind shear still going to be present when the main line rolls through? Right now, it looks like the favorable Dynamics for severe weather will shift to the north as the line gets into our area.

The SPC has all of us outside of Chattanooga in a marginal risk for strong to severe thunderstorms. I think that's a good call, IMO.

West and Middle TN already under a tornado watch from the looks of it. I bet East TN gets put on one as well.

The lack of eastward movement of the squall line has allowed for greater destabilization farther East. We should be under a tornado watch later this afternoon.

Watch Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tornado Watch has been issued for the Southern Valley (areas south and west of Loudon county) until 9:00 PM EST. Damaging winds up to 70 mph is the primary threat, but a couple isolated tornadoes can't be ruled out.
