Today's SEC is different than 30 years ago Doc. The up and down record of Majors back then, couldn't withstand the recruiting wars of today. He won 8 games one time in his first 6 seasons here, and that wouldn't be tolerated today, especially with how TV contracts and other things work.
That's what I fear people don't understand about our situation. We just put all this money into facilities and improving our aesthetics of the program, that trying to wait on Dooley to prove his worth, will put us behind the 8-ball in paying it back. It's already obvious that season ticket sales are down, and have continued to decline for 6 years. Part of that is due to economy, and part to do with performance. I like Dooley as a person, he seems to get it about UT and what it's about, but I don't like his coaching resume and results, which is ultimately what your graded upon in this business. I blame our AD more than I really blame him though, for putting him in this mess, and him not have been put in this situation before. You can't have a coach doing OTJ training in the SEC, or you will get eaten alive, in the W/L column and recruiting department. Florida may very well end up in the same boat, if Muschamp doesn't pan out as well. Difference between there and here, hire the right coach with their recruiting base, and you are golden.
UT has GOT to hire someone that can mend this fanbase, which Dooley has done ZERO of that since he has gotten here. That's part of my problem with him right now, and until he realizes he's got to be a people person here, he's going to be hard pressed to find the fan support he needs. Kiffin knew this, and as bad as he did us, and as much as I could care less about him as a person, as a coach he knew how to hype UT, period. I don't want him back as a coach, but I do want someone like him who can help fix this fanbase.
