Early Team Recruiting Rankings

UGA and Auburn are the only two schools, in those nine I counted, to have Top 2 recruiting classes the February after having a losing season. Those are 2 of the 4 to win their division.

So, it's a 5% shot for UT to win their division, based on recent history.

There you go avoiding what everyone else has been saying....the percentage goes up if you take out the teams that have rarely had a winning sec record in their entire history.

We barely beat Vandy, and lost to KY last year, those teams DO matter, based on our performance the past 4 seasons. We have 11 SEC wins since 2008, which is 4 more than Vandy, 2 more than KY, and 1 more than Ole Miss. We are tied for 4th lowest wins in the SEC in that time frame with Miss. St. We are one of the worst SEC teams the past 4 years, and if not for David Cutcliffe coming back and rescuing Fulmer, we might of had fewer wins those two seasons.

The biggest jump in wins in the SEC since 2004, is Arkansas 2 to 7, Ole Miss 0 to 5 and Auburn 3 to 8. The average jump, for teams that aren't normal losers in the SEC, from a losing record to a winning record is 3.25 wins, and that's not counting the 5 win gain by Ole Miss, and if you do count that it's 3.4 wins. So, the most games, on average and by recent history that the Vols could potentially win this year in the SEC, is 4 total. That would be the same win total that Kiffin had in 2009.

We are not a computer program and are at best going to win 3.25 more games.... I base the fact that we will win 8 plus games based on the improved talent level....more experience and weaker schedule. I feel we should have one of the best offenses in the conference and an adequate....special teams worries me more than anything.

I'm only talking about SEC wins, not overall wins.

When Arkansas only won 2 SEC games, they played as many freshmen as UT did last year. UT won just as many games as that Arkansas team without their starting qb, starting wide receiver, star safety, and its only experienced linebacker.

What do you think Arkansas's record would have been the next year if they would have lost Ryan Mallet and Jarius Wright?

What schools are in that and how well did they recruit? That is a big variable you are ignoring.

Of course schools like UK, Arky, MSU, Ole Miss, and VU will have a much harder climb because they don't have the resources that UT does.

I don't think we should be lumped in with those other three lol

I do think recruiting rankings are overrated...ours is terrible right now because we don't have a coach though. But for us most of the rivals guys aren't able to travel to a lot of the small, rural towns here so they just give them a 3* (I swear we lead the world in 5.7 3*'s) just ask jarius wright, greg childs, jake bequette and chris gragg. The only 5* we have sucks.

I mean if petrino for example had the talent that LSU did last year it wouldnt even be fair...good coaching is much more important. I think he would be winning 10 games every year if Tennessee hires him too before he screws up again

Someone is going to get a good coach in Petrino. He'll be very high on a few teams radar. Dooley keeps sucking it up i wouldn't mind having him here.

Are Top College Recruits More Likely to Be NFL 1st Round Draft Picks?

Below is a year-by-year breakdown of the first round of the NFL draft:
2012
5-star — 4
4-star — 13
3-star — 10
2-star — 4
2011
5-star — 7
4-star — 11
3-star — 11
2-star — 3
2010
5-star — 6
4-star — 15
3-star — 6
2-star — 5
2009
5-star — 6
4-star — 12
3-star — 6
2-star — 7

many times just as many 2stars are drafted in the 1st round as 5stars.. recruiting rankings are garbage
You can't be this ignorant. The above proves just how good of an indicator recruiting rankings really are.

In spite of a rich tradition and some of the nations best facilities, the Vols have - by SEC standards - another mediocre class headed our way. Consider that the majority of the Vols' class is committed and we're essentially competing with programs like Vandy and Missouri for recruits. And yet after the KY debacle, the same homers who were advocating Dooley be kept to protect a top 10 recruiting class, are the same ones pretending that the state of the current recruiting class isn't a major concern.

Today's SEC is different than 30 years ago Doc. The up and down record of Majors back then, couldn't withstand the recruiting wars of today. He won 8 games one time in his first 6 seasons here, and that wouldn't be tolerated today, especially with how TV contracts and other things work.

That's what I fear people don't understand about our situation. We just put all this money into facilities and improving our aesthetics of the program, that trying to wait on Dooley to prove his worth, will put us behind the 8-ball in paying it back. It's already obvious that season ticket sales are down, and have continued to decline for 6 years. Part of that is due to economy, and part to do with performance. I like Dooley as a person, he seems to get it about UT and what it's about, but I don't like his coaching resume and results, which is ultimately what your graded upon in this business. I blame our AD more than I really blame him though, for putting him in this mess, and him not have been put in this situation before. You can't have a coach doing OTJ training in the SEC, or you will get eaten alive, in the W/L column and recruiting department. Florida may very well end up in the same boat, if Muschamp doesn't pan out as well. Difference between there and here, hire the right coach with their recruiting base, and you are golden.

UT has GOT to hire someone that can mend this fanbase, which Dooley has done ZERO of that since he has gotten here. That's part of my problem with him right now, and until he realizes he's got to be a people person here, he's going to be hard pressed to find the fan support he needs. Kiffin knew this, and as bad as he did us, and as much as I could care less about him as a person, as a coach he knew how to hype UT, period. I don't want him back as a coach, but I do want someone like him who can help fix this fanbase.

You cannot convince me to lose my optimism for the upcoming season. I am a fan. I am a homer. I am a fanatic. I am a Volunteer.

As Ron Swanson would say " V,B!" :fireworks:

A & M is 5th with a 3.3 average star. We have a 3.4 average star. If you can tell the difference in that, or for that matter UGA's 3.53 average, as it pertains to if they're going to be an SEC caliber player, then you need to get paid for said talents. (nothing against you WA Vol)

Whoever has the most 4 star players has the highest ranked class usually, i.e. A&M has 10 UT has 4. BTW using avg star rating UT is 16th.

Recruiting has been a disappointment so far this year, but it's the 1st time under Dooley's tenure that they have been. We have a chance to get some momentum going with next week's camp, and with a good season we could make a huge jump. The rankings will mean much more 7 months from now when they count.

How about the fanbase fix themselves? Seems to me that the "fans" need to adjust their own attitudes regarding the program and not rely on who is or could be the HC.
