early 2017 predictions

it will be a long season. Along with replacing Dobbs the best I see is 8-4 and that is optimistic. Could go 7-5.

I think next year is a struggle. Getting to a bowl game is probably the ceiling of expectations for me. If we couldn't win the east this year, I see no chance that we win next year. Could be a big recruiting year, but then again, then year was supposed to be legendary, so I don't know. 5-7 at worst, 7-5 at best, IMO.

Need 2 things to happen. 1. Not have an uncharacteristic season of injuries to starters and 2. Let Shoop bring his assistants in to coach D.

Our floor should be 7-5 or 8-4. Nearly every position will have an upperclassman, we will have about 13-14 recruiting stars on the DL, the QB should have more upside than Dobbs, and I believe the team will overall be more cohesive. Factor in the underclassmen who got reps, Shoop being in his second year (when most coordinators start to really kick in), and possible changes to S&C as well as positional coaches, then we could very well be looking at 10-2. If Butch were to go 8-4 again, I say keep him one more year, and if we don't win the East in '18, it may be time to move on.

Not trying to be neg but your expecting a lot from 2 guys that haven't face legit Sec teams yet

We could go 10-2 and the Sugar Bowl. However, if Butch fails to get to Atlanta, he deserves to be fired. Sugar Bowl isn't good enough.

With the team we have next year we may have growing pains as far as QB and secondary, so I don't know that it's fair to demand we win the east against what will surely be an improved Georgia, Missouri, Vandy, and possibly Florida. We get another tough draw from the west too. We don't need to be too eager to go looking for a new coach after we clawed our way out of the Dooley situation.

So basically the Butch cliches and excuses continue next year....

If we aren't winning an East Title and chance to play in Atlanta in a coach's 5th year given the failures of the past two to do so, Butch shouldn't get a 6th.... I find it hard to believe that we shouldn't expect a coach in his 5th year to win the division for the first time in his time here.

They lose to Ga Tech Week 1 in Atlanta. They beat the directional school of the awful but not by a lot then get beat down by Florida Week 3 and the inevitable Butch Jones firing happens.

Next year will be a lot like last year, it will depend upon injuries. If we can somehow manage to stay relatively healthy, this team could win 8-9 games. If we have significant injuries again, then 6-7 games is very possible. We will be ok at wr, tight end, and running back; oline should be decent and qb play should be ok. On defense, d line and linebacker will be question marks again as well as the secondary. Can UT improve enough on defense to just be average? If they can, then they have the potential to win 8-9 games.

8-4.

Just about what I would predict.

I do think GA Tech is going to be very tough with that option offense.

FL and UGA should be getting better while UT gets a lot younger.

LSU and Bama are head and shoulders above anything coming out of the East unfortunately.

Going with a first time starting QB and replacing Hurd and Kamara(likely) on offense.

Replacing Sutton, Barnett, Maybin on defense isn't going to be easy. Obviously couldn't handle replacing Sutton and Maybin this season.

jacob eason at georgia was a freshmen and they went 7-5 and could have been better if not for our hail mary and one point loses to vandy and georgia tech.

Hardly an excuse here. Sure, we should have gone 10-2 this season, maybe even 11-1. And yes, Butch made decisions that led to our team being weaker than it should have been from the get go. One decision may have even led to our injury problems in the first place. But beating FL and GA softens much of the disappointment for me, and it's not as if we would have beaten Bama in the SECCG anyway. If Butch learns from his mistakes, which appears to be happening, the program will only get better from here. If he doesn't, then we should make a change. Regardless, a coach shouldn't have to have a set timer of 3-4 years before he wins a championship. Our fan base feels far too much entitlement.

Guessing the O/U on regular season wins will be 7 or 7.5

I'll take the over with 8

Jones at 2017 SEC meeting: "We have one of the youngest teams in America. We don't have the depth we need. We'll be a resilient team. We have very high expectations here at Tennessee. We're starting over at a lot of important positions. But we expect a lot out our young players. It's a week by week conference and we'll take it one game at a time." smh
