The people who are buying Nintendo products are probably people who have never even heard of E3 - so oh well.
Wait - so you are seriously trying to argue that people who buy Nintendo products actually know of E3? All those young families with 10 year old kids buying all those Wii fits and such? And even older couples...
Gamers don't really play the Wii (I bought one when it came out then sold it after the novelty wore off) - and only gamers know about E3..

Seriously - go ask the average teenager if they know what E3 is... if you really want to spice it up - ask a teenage girl who owns the Wii if they have any clue what E3 is or if they read video game reviews about E3 and up coming products.
Yes - people who are "gamers" play the Wii - but it's a small, small, small portion. The Wii got most of its sales through word of mouth basically... someone hosts a party.. breaks out the Wii.. they love it - go out and buy it..
How many gamers do you know that own the games like the Wii fit and dance games? Mario isn't really for the "hardcore" - my little cousin plays that on the Wii.. but obviously gamers who grew up on Mario and Zelda are going to purchase the Wii just for those games due to their loyalty and love of the title.. that's why I originally bought the Wii - to play the new Zelda.

i didn't even know you had a wii
Mario has not and never will be considered hardcore. What is hardcore about Mario? I played it as a 10 year old - and my cousin plays it as a 10 year old. I'll still occasionally hop on an NES emulator or something and play it - but how does that make it hardcore? Lol.
And you realize that all the gaming nerds flock to E3 - aka the small, small, small portion of Wii owners that we would actually consider gamers, correct? Get real man.
The fantasy world called every major gaming publication/website.
I'm not saying I like it, just saying Microsoft sucked something awful this year. They might as well not have even shown up if that's the best they were going to show.
G4 was just railing on them for trying to step outside their boundaries. Nintendo is for little kids, or adults who play video games with their kids. The only time the Wii was ever god was when Shay Laren was playing with it, and that was 100 percent her, and 0 percent Wii.
Well wise sage of video games...pray tell us all, what makes a game "hardcore" then? Guns? Blood?
Oh there's a small detail....you're wrong that it's not considered "hardcore". Again, if you'd like to disagree with the majority of the gaming community, be my guest.
Me get real? You are the one that keeps changing just exactly what E3 is. First you say only gamers show up and indicate that since Wii owners aren't "gamers" then Wii owners don't care. Then when I point out that every year Nintendo's conference gets tons of attention and reception, now you say E3 is only attended by geeks and the small minority of Wii owners that YOU consider gamers are there....
False - I've always said a very, very, very small portion of active Wii players I would consider gamers. And considering how many Wiis have sold - it is not hard to imagine that they could fill up E3.. not exactly that crazy of a concept.
I still don't see how you can consider MARIO hardcore, lol. What is your definition of hardcore? By saying it's appealing to everyone... it even appealed to my dad and I will not be surprised one bit if it appeals to one of his grandchildren makes it the opposite of hardcore, imo.
So everyone that plays Mario is hardcore? Since it's only for the hardcore? I guess I'm just not sure where you're coming from with that one.
Nintendo's conference has been popular well before the Wii; even during the GameCube years it had a huge following.
And I ask again, what is your definition of a hardcore game? You apparently can tell me what's NOT a hardcore game, but what IS one?
For the first paragraph - like I said earlier - Nintendo was the standard for gamers before the Wii pretty much - I preferred the PS2 over the gamecube - but that was still decent.. terrible controller kept me from playing it.
People grew up on Nintendo - they pretty much made video games what they are today - that's why they have such a large following. I lived for the NES, SNES, and N64.
I asked you the same question - but a game that appeals to the masses of all age ranges definitely is not in the definition of my hardcore type games.
To be honest - it's hard to define what a hardcore game is... but you certainly could say games like Read Dead, Metal Gear Solid, Gears of War type games are "hardcore". You won't find any teenage girls or 9-year-olds playing those.
If you want to consider some older games for older consoles I'd consider hardcore - then pretty much any rpg for the SNES such as: Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Secret of Evermore, Super Mario RPG, FF, etc. and not games like Mario Kart (although I loved that game).
I thought a game like Socom II for the ps2 would fall in the category of more "hardcore".
I guess it's up to your definition of it - but I do not consider any simple Mario game "hardcore".
So that's pretty much your definition....if no 9 year olds or teenage girls plays it, then it's "hardcore"?
The problem I have with the "hardcore" term is it doesn't fit. I don't consider hardly ANY current gen games "hardcore" because so many games are too easy and too short. Give me a game like Ninja Gaiden....both the old NES games AND the new games are what I consider hardcore.
I use the term "core" mostly...and by that I mean games that don't have some gimmick. Which yes, that rules out a lot of Wii titles but it also rules out Guitar Hero and Rock Band. That's why I do put Mario and Zelda games in the same "core" category as I do God of War and Halo.
