Dysfunctional Program....

“Too predictable after the first couple of drives.”

Not my words, the Illinois coaches. Coach Heupel would be wise to take heed. He also needs to drastically improve his clock management and late half / game playcalling.

As I have said many times, I believe Coach Heupel is a top-notch offensive coordinator. He needs to learn how to be a top notch head coach.

This year will tell us a lot.
Not Illinois Coach Bielema quote, a lone Illinois safety commented UT is predictable but with no context.

Are we are dysfunctional program with our approach in the NIL era? When it first started seemed we was ahead of the game... But something seems off lately
College sports is in a different era now. And its not good for the fans of college teams who are still dwelling middle of the totem pole. We will have players who are constantly poached or disgruntled with playing time or lack of NIL money and want to see what's on the other side of the fence. Teams now prepare their players basically for other teams to evaluate and bid on. You take and others take also. 5 star recruits come in with the assumption they are starting and to be honest, some athletes are ready physically and mentally from the get-go. College sports is like watching pro sports on steroids. At least the pros have contracts locking them in for x amount of years.

I HATE what college "sports "has become. Gave up on professional sports long ago for several reasons, now the mercenary money-grubbiing of what I once loved is no better. Loved the Tennessee volunteers for decades, but it's difficult to even care anymore.

The only thing I see as off is the paying public overpaying to watch semi-pro athletics. It is not about college athletics any longer, nor alligence to a school, university, or locale. The sooner the schools realize this, the better.
If by "college athletics" you mean the old exploitation model that violated federal law, you still are not correct.

It's hysterical that you claim that it's not college athletics...and your on a college athletics site complaining. Isn't that just a teeny bit confused?

I think the younger generations may adapt but it's difficult for those of us who were raised on the amateur game. We still pay attention for entertainment, but our emotional ties are far less.

Some point out that players always received money even when it was forbidden by ncaa rules. I know times change and I find myself out of sync with the times. The best analogy I can make is how I felt about MLB in the 1950s/1960s growing up in Memphis. Every summer morning during summer vacation from school, I read the box scores from all 16 teams. I loved it all, Diz and Peewee on the Game of the Week, Harry Carey doing the Cardinal games each day, and the game itself (playing and watching). It was the grand old pastime. Then, expansion came and the players began arbitration, eventually strikes, and escalating salaries with no cap, and then PEDs. The players are stronger and more powerful, pitchers throwing in the high 90s and above, hitters looking like Samson at the plate. Is the level of play superior? Heck yeah! But would I prefer the MLB of the past? Heck yeah! I felt less and less interested in the game that I once loved. I watch no games, barely keep up with the standings. I did watch 3 or 4 World Series games last year for the first time in a while.

When I became an adult, my new more exciting interest became college football. I lived for fall practice, the upcoming season, and following the Vols and attending games every chance I had. It gave me a passions aside from work and family. Like baseball, money found a way to spoil it all for me. Rule changes, NIL, and the dadgum portal have combined to make me feel less interested in whatever comes next. I'm not being stubbornly resistant to all change. But I just lost the enthusiasm and I'm not sure I can ever get it back. Like baseball from my childhood, it's a gradual loss of interest, but it's likely permanent.

Agree. Texas A&M already sussed this out in Jimbo Fisher's last year. I can't believe some schools (I'm looking at you, Kiffen) are still blindly throwing money. Heupel is going a fine job. Needs to improve in areas (defense, strength and conditioning) but he knows that. He reads this message board :)

No. It is not confused. What we have now has nothing to do with college. Kids do not care about academics. The colleges need to demand compensation for using their identities for the programs profits.

I hate threads like this one simply because they make the entire fan base look clueless and just stupid.

Sadly, they've become far too common on this board.
