Dual QB system for 2025?

Leak would have been a difference maker at UT.

He won the National Championship throwing 23 TDs and 13 INTs.
Aguilar numbers.
The game has changed.
He was upset we benched his brother and made him a TE the year before he was a freshman. He decommited right after that. That was when Casey was hurt in 2002, I think

To his defense, he had Doug Johnson, Jesse Palmer and Noah Brindise during that time.
I think using 2 QBs in 98 was one contributing for Vols winning the game. I remember having a sigh of relief when I kept seeing Palmer trot back out there.

Has that ever been successful? I recall Fulmer doing that briefly with Ainge and Schaffer but I think it was just early in the season to see who would take the reigns and when Spurrier did it I don't recall that ending well. Hopefully one of the QBs takes the job and runs with it.

Ehhhh I don’t see it working. You know the old adage about 1 quarterback and not having 1 of you have 2 blah blah blah.

I hate it. I hate the idea that whoever you roll out there lets the D eliminate half the possibilities instantly.

A player with at least a full year in the system (was he also an ee?) should not have a limited playbook
There’s a difference between knowing the plays in a playbook and being experienced executing them on game day. That said, better than throwing someone onto the field that doesn’t even know the plays in a playbook, is young and has no experience. Pretty much what people wanted us to do with Nico. Seems dangerous to me. Aguilar has experience, but he will have limited knowledge. Gmac will not have anything. Merk will have the most knowledge, but not as much experience as Aguilar. I say go with the experienced QB. Gmac has great upside, but he is a beanpole.

There are nits to be picked here 😂 Heupel has a fine grasp on what he’s going to do and I doubt you win a national championship under center being indecisive. Assess, decide, act, repeat. If you’re bad at assessing or deciding or acting? Probably going to have some less than ideal outcomes. We’ve had some pretty good outcomes.

It’s fair to say he has no idea what’s going to happen. Who does? But the “what to do” die was cast as soon as practice got skipped the day before the O&W game and I doubt he’s wasted much time looking in the rear view.

In other words, cutting ties with Nico is a better result for the program than any permutation of how Aguilar/GMac/Merk plays out this season. And I still think this season has potential to surprise a lot of people.

Came to say the exact same thing............additionally when your rotating like that its hard to get in a rhythm with your WR's, OL, and your handoff is different with the RB's. Plus its hard to get in your own flow of the game......haven't seen it work that I can remember with any team.
Also, you're handing off to RBs reminds of the time a long time ago we had a QB come in. The Center to QB snap was fumbled and it was said he works mostly with the backup centers and it's just different for these QBs under center. A lot of variables.

Yes. I should stick to getting my information about Tennessee football from the mouth breathers from the trailer parks of Vonore on Volnation.

You do understand that two weeks ago the coach thought he was walking into next season with a 2nd year starter who was considered by most the top QB recruit of his cycle. Now he's got this mess. His #1 guy is likely someone who couldn't get a scholarship offer from anyone and ended up at App St.. His #2 guy has never started a game in college football and looked suspect in the Orange and white game. and then there's guy #3. So no, CJH probably has no idea what he's going to do going into next season.

Maybe you would sound smarter if you used more emoji's.
I will tell Danny White to pay you $10 mill instead lol ....

I referenced this a few weeks ago using Leak and Tebow as the example (and embarrassingly stated Spurs was the coach when it was Meyer). To me that is the best example of the 2 qb working. Leak making the passing plays, Tebow getting yards with his legs. Granted, one of those guys was a Heisman winner so it took some serious talent to make it work. I could see us implementing a Wildcat option and just hike it directly to one of our tailbacks which would kind of accomplish the same thing without tipping our hat to the defense we are running.
"Leak making the passing plays, Tebow getting yards with his legs." And telegraphing to the opposition what kind of a play you intend to run?
