Love the confidence of our players. Especially Drew Richmond. Unlike a certain someone, they're not afraid to say their goal is to win it all.

Sometimes you really do put your lack of experience as a competitor on full display. There is not one player or coach on the hill that doesn't have a National Championship as the goal. That goal however is predicated by reaching several goals that will build to it. This is why most players and coaches will focus and speak more the more immediate goals that have to be reached daily in order to accomplish the ultimate goal. Quit bashing Butch because he wants to keep the team focused on the smaller goals that must be reached that lead to a Natty.
Good to hear I guess but player speak is about like coach speak. I mean what else are they going to say?

I would prefer the goal being east champions then see what happens. Would seem more believable from where we ended up last season.
So you're saying when Team 120 goes out and competes, their goals shouldn't be to achieve at the highest level? As a fan, I'm not expecting 15-0, but I'd absolutely want the team to BELIEVE they can do it and work to achieve it. Team 120 wants to be great, not good. Not 10-2, SEC East Champs. 15-0, 2016 SEC and National champions. Sad that you'd want them to lower their expectations.
No one is saying to lower expectations. It's called keeping the team focused. Why do you think coaches instill in their players the "I'm focusing on the next game" mentality. Staying focused on the current task is the key to long term success.
Agreed, I like the fact that this teams goal is a NC. To me, this is Tennessee football, and the belief that we are as good as any other team out there.
There's a difference in defining success and having goals, to me. Success for this team is winning the East (and in doing so, winning 10 games and going to the wire in the SECCG) but the goal is ALWAYS win the national title. If you settle for less than the best, you will hit it every time.
