Doug Matthews Show

If you had a wife and 3 kids that you were responsible for providing for would you do that? You’re scenario involves giving up 10 million dollars. As a father, I would respect the man even less if he did that.

Let’s see. Pruitt makes around $4 million per annum Xs 3 years so far. If he can’t support his family on that then maybe he should downsize from that doublewide.

You responded to my question with you own, asking "Who said the AD has to be the one negotiating?"

So if not the AD, who do you envision negotiating with Sexton for a lower buyout for Pruitt?

Go back 2. I was referencing how leverage is found.

Well, UT could say something like "we want you gone but we're not going to fire you. We can't. So you get to stay on national television making a fool of yourself until you quit or make an error so egregious that we get to fire you for cause. Either way you've damaged your brand irreparably. Or, you can walk away for 2 million dollars today and we will all be happier"

5-6 million might do it. 2 million wont.

Bama isn't exactly thrilled with their DC, maybe Nick called him home.
Saban is a damn genius, in more ways than one. He’ll soon have a DC making $2M/year(paid by Tennessee) but in reality bama will only have to pay him $30K/year, thus basically freeing up $2M extra, for Dodge Chargers and off campus condos.
GBO!!

I don't think there is legal leverage. However, JP has always been at very successful programs where winning was the norm. He's a rockstar DC but appears to be a failed HC. What I see is a guy who has quit and isn't enjoying what he is doing. Lots of ways to frame a reduced buyout, even using the one before the extension, to save face. I could be completely wrong, but I think JP would accept a reduced buyout, to get back to what he is very good at, if presented in the "right way", to borrow an expression.
We can only hope he pulls a Dooley and asks to be bought out. Maybe instead of Dave “I just got here” Hart, declining the offer we’d work out something and move on.

He is not a rockstar DC he is an idiot who has had the pleasure of having the best players money could buy, and head coaches that were able to help him along

Let's get our free of charge DC on retainer then.. Call Massivechimp and get him locked up so we can free up money for Jeremy's and Freeze's buyouts... 😎

I'm in the tri-sh!tties... uh... cities. You wouldn't know off hand what station I could get him on or maybe internet radio?
Don't know. I listen on 104.5 in Nashville. His show used to air on a Knoxville station, too. He has a website with podcasts of all the shows. That's ALL I know, except that the VOLS are 2-6.

I like the thought, but unfortunately no one is lining up to work for our program at $30K/ year. Tennessee is where other coaches get huge buyouts or pay raises from their current employer.

Maybe everyone shouldn't blame the guy who said he THOUGHT he could be a SEC coach. Maybe the blame goes to the guy that hired him . Yes the same one who hasn't made a good hire in football in over 20 years. Thanks Phil. Please don't say "he loves TN" If I was worth 14 million and counting you can say I love Alabama. GO AWAY PHIL u have helped enough

As a head coach, yes, I agree. As a DC, IMO, no... He will never be a "Butch Jones", he has a far more advanced football mind (defensively anyway) and good teams will pay him good money to coordinate their defenses..
What have you seen from this advanced football mind that makes you believe he can even spell football. Not sure statistically, but in my eye he is no better than sunseri( another bama reject). He has had the luxury of being on the staffs of the teams that had the best players money can buy. It is laughable to even think he knows how to coach any position, much less defense. We”done” lost 6 in a row by double digits. He “done” lost this team, and he “done” shown everybody he is qualified to coach any position

Just my opinion after loosely following his career over several years. I hear this narrative a lot that he was only good because he had 5 stars. Yes, he had a lot of talent to work with but not all were 5 stars, not to mention he helped or outright recruited many of those players and when he got them, he evidently knew what to do with them. Some of you act like 5 stars come pre-programmed to play at an elite P5 level. That's simply not true.

That said, when it comes right down to it, it doesn't matter one bit what you or I think. It only matters what other coaches think that might hire him. From what I've read, he's respected in coaching circles as a DC and generally viewed by his peers as a good DC. A head coach, not so much.. I'll take their opinions on his ability as a DC over mine, yours or VolNation's.

I sure wished all the cliché group would get together and agree for JUST ONE PERSON to post the same ole worn out clichés. It sure would save time and it could be for the whole group LOL! I was taught in journalism class NEVER, EVER state the obvious or repeat well worn out phrases because it'll make you look ignorant. Not a crime and it'll continue look after I'm gone but I think that's why its so hard for me to read some of the post over and over and over....My wife being a journalist (a real one and not a fake one :D) for 40 years and the author of two books would literally cringe like hearing finger nails on a chalkboard were she to read this stuff. No worries. She hates sports and thinks it absurd regardless of the fact that's what most of her family did for a living (LOL again).

No problem. Did you find it?
Not yet. I wrote it down the suggestions on my little board behind my desk. I've been busy running around my basement doing inventory on all my electrical parts and pieces so I can figure out what I don't need to buy for my next project...

I do appreciate all the help. Great thing about VolNation, many jump up and help when somebody asks... 😎👍

I don’t recall website but google Big Orange Sunday. You will see different dates. Today’s show was downloaded this morning. I listened to it this morning. He discusses all the good things w did - no penalties, no turnovers, good QB play , etc. He said that Pruitt will DEFINITELY return next season (yr 4) regardless of last two games. He said he knows that to be a fact.

Well, that's depressing... Not sure I want to listen now and hear that nugget twice.. 😎

Serious question... What leverage would UT use to negotiate a sum lower than what Pruitt's legally binding contract states he will get?
In most financial contracts there are clauses for early payouts and lump sum payouts...almost every contract has them, from credit cards and mortgages to job contracts.

Typically when negotiating they go to an arbitration and is usually settled at 70 to 80 percent.

Pruitt's option here would be to sue and send it to litigation and it would be years before he would see a dime, so taking the 75 percent lump would be in his favor and UT comes out with 4 mill less to pay.

Wouldn’t surprise me. These “losing” experiences are new for him and he doesn’t like the “limelight” either, which next season will probably be unbearable. I would assume a JP coached UT team, next season, will lose the games we are expected to and lose a couple we shouldn’t. To use his jargon, “he ain’t done good “ and he knows it and so does the “Paparazzi”.
