UT was always just a chance for Pruitt to prove that he could be the HC at Alabama after Saban.
That dream is dead, and the only thing Pruitt has left to coach for is the paycheck, and that is obviously not enough motivation for him.
It truly is laughable at this point that some people worried Pruitt would be so successful here he would jump back to Alabama whenever Saban retired.
I think it was ultimately Pruitt's goal to do so, but the reality of his lack of HC ability was apparent in year 1 when he couldn't motivate the team, started the revolving door of assistant hires.
He may not get a shot as a HC again, but he will work as a DC. He will not damage his brand so much that he won't be able to do that. Most likely he'll go right back to bama..Again, that figure is filler. I could've said cornbread, or asparagus. That wasn't part of the question I thought I was answering for you.
The others will find jobs somewhere for recruiting purposes or, head coaches will view Pruitt as the cause of the regression.I won't be surprised to see Ainsley go back to the NFL as a position coach, Chaney will just ride it out till retirement, and the rest of the staff is basically unemployable after the player regression over the last 3 seasons.
I don't think there is legal leverage. However, JP has always been at very successful programs where winning was the norm. He's a rockstar DC but appears to be a failed HC. What I see is a guy who has quit and isn't enjoying what he is doing. Lots of ways to frame a reduced buyout, even using the one before the extension, to save face. I could be completely wrong, but I think JP would accept a reduced buyout, to get back to what he is very good at, if presented in the "right way", to borrow an expression.Serious question... What leverage would UT use to negotiate a sum lower than what Pruitt's legally binding contract states he will get?
Well, UT could say something like "we want you gone but we're not going to fire you. We can't. So you get to stay on national television making a fool of yourself until you quit or make an error so egregious that we get to fire you for cause. Either way you've damaged your brand irreparably. Or, you can walk away for 2 million dollars today and we will all be happier"

IMO, he would be stupid to negotiate down from what his contract states..
He won't be here three more years unless he performs a miracle. In which case he's a hero in Knoxville...You may be right.
Pruitt and his family may have no trouble living in Knoxville as persona non grata for 3 years. I'm sure his wife and kids will love the harassment, the moving signs/vans, the taunts from other kids at school, or whatever crap failing coaches have to deal with in college football towns. Pruitt may have no trouble seeing himself lambasted and humiliated on TV and local radio. Pruitt may sleep like a baby and not care about any of it and just collect his paycheck for three years until he goes back home. That all could very well be the case and then you don't have that leverage to mercifully pull the plug on something that clearly isn't working for either party.
But, that seems a little far fetched to me. Family. Furure. Pride. Ego. Those are all buttons to push for the type of people who are coaches at that level.
