Doug Matthews On Tennessee Vols 2015 Recruiting Class

Matthews clearly is IN with this staff. He has been nailing stuff since they have been here. He didnt have much luck with kiffin and Dooleys staff since they disassociated themselves from guys in Fulmers group. Butch embraces those guys and is always picking people's brains from the profession.

Lol @ this thread... VN wants an insider so bad, that they'll jump on the first persons opinion that fits their agenda.. Been going on for a long time, and always goes bad.

Breaking news- UT coaches are the only ones that know anything, and they're not telling anyone.

My goodness, now I remember why I stopped posting on VN. You either have never listened to Matthews, have no idea who he is, or just don't have a clue what you're talking about. Actually, it's probably all three.

AC I think most people on here take the insider thing differently than you. It is all just for fun. For me the most entertaining/interesting posts come from "people in the know" like Larry or orangevenom. I even find the fake insiders amusing.

Coach Jones could post information and where he thinks recruits are going and be wrong.

Why would I be butthurt? Congrats on being the 1 billionth person to use the term in an Internet forum. And not even in correct context for the conversation. Impressive.

Actually it was very correct. You just want to deflect because someone feels differently than you. Oh and this is an Internet forum so things should be lose and fun. Sorry that you cannot have fun in here. I guess it sucks to be you.

Well, Matthews actually does know some stuff

Careful KB...you're treading dangerously close to making his IGNORE list. :w00t:

Jeepers!! Thx for the heads up Butch. There are a few guys on here that I virtually pray have me on ignore. 😊 AC's not one of em but you never know I guess.

I'm certainly not an "insider" but I went to a few practices when CPF was there and it seemed like Matthews was there just about every time I went. He must have been making several trips to Knoxville during the season. This would have been in the 1990's. Although I know several former players (going back to the mid-1980's) I don't keep up with them much now since I've been retired. I've never had but one contact that I felt was reliable for recruiting and that was for Josh Malone and the guy told me a couple weeks before his commitment that UT would get Josh and he was correct. He also told me that if Tennessee didn't have Gruden in an agreement by the day of the SEC Championship game in 2012 that he wouldn't be coming here. Where he ended up being wrong at was he said that Charlie Strong would get the job (if there was no agreement with JG). I'm very glad he was correct about Malone and wrong about Strong! I believe that Matthews is still well liked in the Athletic Department and may have a contact or two that can give him a little information that should be fairly accurate but also subject to change just because of the way recruiting is.

Doug Matthews hosted an interesting show on college football recruiting and focused in on the Vols 2015 recruiting class. Matthews used his background as a coach to create a picture of what takes place in recruiting and used his contact information to discuss the Vols 2015 recruiting class. This was definitely his best dow to date.

I have highlighted what he discussed, which you can listen to by pulling up his podcast.

104.5 The Zone Big Orange Sunday With Doug Matthews 6-29-14 Podcast

I have a good feel for the two freshmen who move to O-Line might be, but am lost of who the sophomore would be.

I am as well. The only one who would make sense size wise is O'Brien and I can't imagine he is not one of our 4-5 best DTs right now. The others are Miller and Lewis and last I saw they were both a good 45-50lbs from being anywhere close to OL size.

People say O'Brien but I have no idea why. I can't see him at OT. And I think we will actually be good at LG C RG.

Doug mentioned, and this is not unexpected, that we have a war room big board.

Who do you guys think the top ten are?

My guess...

1. Richmond
2. Mckenzie
3. Philips
4. DJ Jones
5. Tuttle
6. Jefferson
7. Abernathy
8. Settle
9. Sapp
10. Ordway

Wow, AC. You shoot down anybody who halfway resembles an insider. DM is connected whether you want to believe it or not. Not to mention, his football talk is very enlightening. He's easily the best listen in all of Nashville talk radio.

No disrespect to Mathews but the current recruiting information contradicts his opinion.

How so? For one example, he said on Sunday that Kyle Phillips is one of 5 players that UT will hold a scholarship for .... and Paul Fortenberry agrees....

"Regardless. Defensive end is a big priority in this class and while the already have Butcher and Jackson, they need to add a couple more pieces and they will save one spot for Phillips and probably one more, maybe two if the numbers are right."

What examples do you have that he's contradicting current other recruiting information?

Maybe he meant "his" recruiting information. We all have our opinions. :)
