Lol @ this thread... VN wants an insider so bad, that they'll jump on the first persons opinion that fits their agenda.. Been going on for a long time, and always goes bad.
Breaking news- UT coaches are the only ones that know anything, and they're not telling anyone.

Why would I be butthurt? Congrats on being the 1 billionth person to use the term in an Internet forum. And not even in correct context for the conversation. Impressive.

Doug Matthews hosted an interesting show on college football recruiting and focused in on the Vols 2015 recruiting class. Matthews used his background as a coach to create a picture of what takes place in recruiting and used his contact information to discuss the Vols 2015 recruiting class. This was definitely his best dow to date.
I have highlighted what he discussed, which you can listen to by pulling up his podcast.

I have a good feel for the two freshmen who move to O-Line might be, but am lost of who the sophomore would be.

No disrespect to Mathews but the current recruiting information contradicts his opinion.
How so? For one example, he said on Sunday that Kyle Phillips is one of 5 players that UT will hold a scholarship for .... and Paul Fortenberry agrees....
"Regardless. Defensive end is a big priority in this class and while the already have Butcher and Jackson, they need to add a couple more pieces and they will save one spot for Phillips and probably one more, maybe two if the numbers are right."
What examples do you have that he's contradicting current other recruiting information?
I'm certainly not an "insider" but I went to a few practices when CPF was there and it seemed like Matthews was there just about every time I went. He must have been making several trips to Knoxville during the season. This would have been in the 1990's. Although I know several former players (going back to the mid-1980's) I don't keep up with them much now since I've been retired. I've never had but one contact that I felt was reliable for recruiting and that was for Josh Malone and the guy told me a couple weeks before his commitment that UT would get Josh and he was correct. He also told me that if Tennessee didn't have Gruden in an agreement by the day of the SEC Championship game in 2012 that he wouldn't be coming here. Where he ended up being wrong at was he said that Charlie Strong would get the job (if there was no agreement with JG). I'm very glad he was correct about Malone and wrong about Strong! I believe that Matthews is still well liked in the Athletic Department and may have a contact or two that can give him a little information that should be fairly accurate but also subject to change just because of the way recruiting is.
